The vote was unanimous. Motion carried. Proclamation – Month of the Young Child Katie Klein of the Early Learning Advisory Group requested that the Commissioners proclaim the month of April as the Month of the Young Child. She stated this year, the Week of the Young Child is April 21-28. There is a Kids Fair scheduled on April 28 th at the Somerset County Church of the Brethren from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to showcase the early childhood programs and services. Dr. Hajel will be having a demonstration, Representative Carl Metzger, Linda’s Dance, Laurel Arts, and Boys & Girls Club will all have booths. Young Life will be serving food. Everyone is encouraged to attend the Fair and see what services are available for early childhood education in our area. Motion by Joe Betta, seconded by John P. Vatavuk to adopt Proclamation No. 5 of 2012 proclaiming the month of April, 2012, as Month of the Young Child as follows: WHEREAS, the Somerset County LEARN Team and other local organizations, in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, are celebrating the Month of the Young Child in April; and WHEREAS, these organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, which are crucial to the growth and development of young children, and to building better futures for everyone in Somerset County Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, all young children and their families across the country and in Somerset County Pennsylvania deserve access to high-quality early education and care; and WHEREAS, in recognizing and supporting the people, programs and policies that are committed to high-quality early childhood education as the right choice for kids.

Vatavuk to accept the resignation of KEVIN SABO of 228 Siemon Drive, Somerset, PA 15501 from the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, effective March 21, 2012. The vote was unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Betta, seconded by John P. Vatavuk to approve the request of Mary Piatt-Bruner, Administrator of the Area Agency on Aging, to appoint SHARON ACKERMAN of 111 East Union Street, Suite 145, Somerset, PA 15501; and AMY KEMP of 228 Siemon Drive, Somerset, PA 15501 to the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council for two-year terms expiring on March 31, 2014. The vote was unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Betta, seconded by John P. Vatavuk to approve the Professional Service Contract with NANCY MILLER of 448 W. Bakersville-Edie Road, Somerset, PA 15501 to provide cleaning services twice a week at the Conemaugh Township Senior Center at the rate of $65.00 per day, effective April 10, 2012. The vote was unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Betta, seconded by John P. Vatavuk to approve the Transportation Service Agreement between the Area Agency on Aging and the COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP FOR SOMERSET COUNTY to provide transportation services in the amount not to exceed $48,000 for fiscal year 2011-12. The vote was unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by Joe Betta, seconded by John P. Vatavuk to approve the Professional Services Agreement with BARB YODER of 107 Locust Street, Somerset, Pennsylvania to provide Yoga instruction at the Somerset Senior Center at a rate of $25.00 per class, effective April 12, 2012 to June 30, 2012. The vote was unanimous. Motion carried.
