Student Reports
Teachers have been focussed on preparing
detailed accurate student reports in recent weeks.
It has been a privilege to read these and find out
more about the achievements for individual
students. Student reports are expected to be sent
home with children on Friday June 21.
Please read these reports with your child,
celebrate their achievements and discuss the
areas in which they can continue to strive to
improve. The report format is the one used by
public schools in Victoria so hopefully will be easy
for parents to interpret.
Parent/Teacher/Student Learning Conferences
Class teachers will be offering parent/teacher
learning conferences for parents of students in
their class in the last week of term 2 on Tuesday
June 25 and Wednesday June 26 afternoon
between 3.30-5.30pm.
To arrange an appointment time parents are
asked to fill in a time that suits them on forms
outside each teacher’s classrooms from next
week. This is the same process we used at the
beginning of the year. Please take up this
opportunity to catch up with your child’s class
teacher.
Students in Judi Collins class will have the
opportunity to have interviews in the first week of
term 3 as these teachers will be on Long Service
Leave in the last week of term 2.
Parent/Teacher/Student learning conferences are
an opportunity for parents to ask teachers
questions, find out more about supporting your
child’s learning as well as clarifying information
included in the report.
Research clearly indicates when schools and
parents work together in partnership, students are
well placed to reach their potential.
Habitat Garden Official Opening
It is with great excitement that on World
Environment day (Wednesday June 5) we had our
official opening of the Habitat Garden. The school
community is very appreciative of all the support
and donations towards this project from the
following individuals and companies: Karina
Baw native plants and habitat creations), Colleen
Bright (Basket weavers association of Victoria),
Wendy and Peter Ronalds, Rachel Drew
(Landcare), Rob Wall (Greater Gippsland tree
the official opening frogs were released into the
frog pond.
Information Session and School Tours for
2014 Preps and their families.
We will be organising school tours and
information session for 2014 Preps and their
families on Wednesday, June 19th. If you are
aware of any families in the community who
may be considering attending Drouin West in
2014 please inform them about this session.
School Tours will start from 2.00pm and
parents/guardians can come along to an
information session from 2.15-3.00pm while
children participate in an activity session with
Anne Cope in the art room.
Wet Weather
We have had some very
wet and cold days and can
expect a few more now we
are in the season of
Winter. Students are
encouraged to wear gum
boots, bring a jumper to
school and even wear a
coat and a scarf outside to keep warm. Children
can also bring along slippers to wear in
classrooms. Some children may also need to
bring along a change of spare clothes to school
when it is wet and muddy outside.
Leaves! Leaves! Leaves!
As the Season of Winter has arrived the leaves
around the school continue to pile up. Families
are encouraged to take bags of leaves from the
front gate to use in compost bins. We will
happily refill these bags during this term. There
are plenty of leaves for everyone!

‘Legally Blonde’
An eager group of children met at the Drouin Railway Station last Wednesday morning, ready to hit the streets of
Melbourne. After fond farewells, they embarked on their journey. Time was easily passed, playing cards and
entertaining the other passengers with their sweet singing.
Upon arrival at Flinders' Street station they enjoyed the sights and music at Federation Square. The children gathered
around a campfire, which was lit by the indigenous custodians of the land and which invites the public to step into the
cold and share the warmth of "The Light In Winter". This is a
celebration of light and enlightenment, providing free
entertainment each night at dusk until the end of June. The fire will
remain alight until this time. The heart of this program lies in
community and it pairs the richness of Melbourne's cultural
diversity with artistic excellence.
The children enjoyed eating lunch by the Yarra River, taking turns
on a slide and viewing artworks outside the National Gallery,
before they walked to the Princess Theatre.
These were the lucky eight children along with Michelle Ellis and
Mrs. Cope, who received free tickets to see "Legally Blonde" the
musical.
Excitement and expectation grew as we waited for the curtain to rise. Colourful music, dance, singing and drama were
to keep us on the edge of our seats for the next two hours and twenty minutes. It was wonderful to watch the reactions of
the children, who sat totally engaged throughout the show.
Following the show, they enjoyed a walk through China Town and explored the arts in the city square. Upon arrival at
Flinders' Street station they were entertained by an African drummer and some of them indulged in a spot of dancing.
The children socialized happily throughout the train ride home and were greeted at the Drouin Station at 5.30pm.
It was a privilege to travel with such a wonderful group of children and we are grateful for Michelle's support in
accompanying us on our adventure.
Cross Country Results
The 17 students who boarded the bus from Drouin West late last month should be very proud of their efforts at the
Cross Country competition. The challenging 2km and 3km course is no easy feat for primary school children. I
would like to personally thank all members for their dedication and persistence when training in their own
lunchtimes. Congratulations to everyone who gave it a go! Hopefully we have even more children enter next year!
CASSE STUDENT DAY
On Friday May 24 th the CASSE team went to the annual CASSE student day at St. Gabriels. We
travelled by train and bus. When we arrived there were six other CASSE teams from other
schools. We had morning tea then a circus team did a performance. After that we split up into
groups and went to our first activity.
The activities were:
Circus skills, ‘In somebody else’s shoes’ (role plays etc.) and an art activity (making a slogan and
designing it on a scrabble board). Each of the activities included team work.
For lunch we had pizza. Afterwards we had playtime and we all got icy poles.
At the end of the day all the schools had a show and tell presentation and then we went home on
the bus and train. We had an awesome day.
