L<strong>and</strong>ings are cleared areas where logs are collected <strong>for</strong> loading <strong>and</strong> transport.<br />
L<strong>and</strong>ings are used <strong>for</strong> stacking, decking, bunching <strong>and</strong> limbing of logs. The<br />
concentration of activities at l<strong>and</strong>ings may cause compaction, erosion or<br />
sedimentation.<br />

Recommended Practice St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> Guidelines<br />
■ Avoid locating l<strong>and</strong>ings in Streamside Management Zones (SMZs).<br />
■ Construct l<strong>and</strong>ings with 3 to 10 percent slopes <strong>for</strong> adequate drainage.<br />
■ Minimize the number <strong>and</strong> size of l<strong>and</strong>ings. No more than 3% of the<br />
harvest area should be occupied by roads <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong>ings.<br />
■ Locate l<strong>and</strong>ings away from natural drainages <strong>and</strong> divert runoff away<br />
from streams.<br />
