EDITORS AND CONTRIBUTORS: Max Spoor is Professor of Development Studies (in particular regarding economies in transition) at the International Institute of Social Studies (The Hague) of Erasmus University Rotterdam, Visiting Professor at the Barcelona Institute of International Studies, and Guest Professor at the Nanjing Agricultural University in China. His research is focused on Asian transition economies such as Vietnam, China, and the countries in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly regarding economic growth, rural and environmental issues, access to land and water resources, land grabbing, poverty, and inequality and social exclusion, while he continues to have a research interest in Latin America and the Caribbean. Martha Jane Robbins is a Master’s student at the International Institute of Social Studies in the Agriculture and Rural Development specialization. Prior to studying at the ISS, she was the International Coordinator for the National Farmers Union (NFU) of Canada where she coordinated the NFU’s participation in the international peasant movement La Via Campesina. She also served as NFU Youth President from 1999-2003. In 2006, she was awarded the inaugural Global Youth Fellowship/Gordon Global Fellowship from the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation to conduct research on migrant farm workers. René Grotenhuis is President of the Netherlands Chapter of the Society of International Development and Chief Executive Officer of the Catholic development organization Cordaid. He has acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of development co-operation, initially as a policy officer and later as a member of the Executive Board of several Dutch development organizations (until 1998). Since his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Cordaid (2003), he has become one of the key players in the Dutch development debate, partly due to the fact that he has recently written a variety of publications on development issues. From 2008-2011 he was the president of CIDSE, the European network of Catholic development agencies. Olivier De Schutter is the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food since May 2008. He is a Professor at the Catholic University of Louvain and at the College of Europe (Natolin). He is also a Member of the Global Law School Faculty at New York University and Visiting Professor at Columbia University. In 2002-2006, he chaired the EU Network of Independent Experts on Fundamental Rights. From 2004 until 2008 he was the General Secretary of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) on the issue of globalization and human rights.
