On May 7, 2009, the CUSD <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Trustees</strong> <strong>re</strong>cognized the accompl<strong>is</strong>hments<br />

<strong>of</strong> over 85 students who had<br />

<strong>re</strong>ceived awards for their academic and<br />

ca<strong>re</strong>er technical education achievements.<br />

<strong>Board</strong> p<strong>re</strong>sident, Te<strong>re</strong>sa Guer<strong>re</strong>ro,<br />

congratulated and p<strong>re</strong>sented each<br />

student with a certificate <strong>of</strong> <strong>re</strong>cognition.<br />

The 2008-2009 Ce<strong>re</strong>s High School Math Team participated<br />

SkillsUSA Team Top Winners<br />

Students from Central Valley High School participated in the 42nd Annual<br />

SkillsUSA California Leadership and Skills Competition in January 2009.<br />

CVHS students won 20 gold and th<strong>re</strong>e silver medals, <strong>re</strong>sulting in the team participating<br />

at the State SkillsUSA California Leadership and Skills Competition<br />

that took place in April 2009. As a <strong>re</strong>sult <strong>of</strong> the ti<strong>re</strong>less efforts <strong>of</strong> Ms. Tina Collier,<br />

Central Valley High School teacher and SkillsUSA <strong>re</strong>gional chapter di<strong>re</strong>ctor,<br />

money was ra<strong>is</strong>ed through a $10,000 grant from Lowe’s to provide students<br />

an opportunity to partner with the City <strong>of</strong> Ce<strong>re</strong>s on a community service<br />

project in Smyrna Park. These students also had the opportunity to participate<br />

in the Ca<strong>re</strong>er Technical Student Organization Summit in May 2009.<br />
