SENIOR SCHOOL
ANZAC Day
This solemn occasion fell during the Term 1 holidays this
year. Therefore, on Friday 12 April during our End of Term
Assembly we stood for a ‘minutes silence’ while Prefect
Bugler, Paul Russo, performed the ‘Last Post’ and
‘Reveille’. Our boys were encouraged to voluntarily
attend Dawn Services in their local communities during
the holidays to show their respect. I am sure that many
did as they always have and perhaps others attended for
their first time but not their last time. Lest We Forget!
Summer Intercol Success
Also at our End of Term Assembly, we celebrated all
summer sports teams’ participants, managers and
coaches for their efforts and during Terms 4 and 1. The
victorious Firsts Tennis and Rowing Intercol Teams
presented their trophies to the Headmaster to the
congratulations of the Middle and Senior Schools.
Red and White
Year 11 and 12 students enjoyed the College ‘Red and
White’, our formal dinner dance held at the Adelaide
Convention Centre on the last night of Term 1. Attending
the Red and White constitutes another, ‘rite of passage’
for our young men. Our most senior students practiced
the manners and courtesies that are expected at those
formal occasions that they will begin to encounter after
they graduate.
Of course, it was also an opportunity for fun, friendship,
food and photography that make lasting sometimes
embarrassing, memories. The Prefect Formal Committee
of Ian Smith, Declan Sharp, Lachlan Duffy, Matt Seals,
Ollie Clark and Henry Basedow worked earnestly and
successfully with the Assistant to the Senior School,
Melissa Dales all term to design and plan the event. Cam
Burfield applied his creativity to the design of the eyecatching
commemorative invitation which reflected the
‘James Bond’ theme elegantly. Special mention and
thanks goes to Steven Marks for the piece de resistance
of the evening by providing his iconic, Bond-like, Aston
Martin for display inside the Hall and as a backdrop to
countless couples’ photographs.
Generations in Jazz
83 students competed at this pre-eminent competition of
student musicianship under the leadership of Director of
Performance, Andrew Newhouse. Our best ever Division
1 placing of third was the top performance by a South
Australian independent school. Congratulations to all six
bands and the leadership of Mr Andrew Newhouse and
staff.
RED Centre
Senior School students took lead roles in leadership,
music performance, public speaking and active
demonstration during the opening of the RED Centre last
week.
I hope all families find an opportunity to visit this
magnificent College facility soon, if they have not already
done so. Our Senior School students particularly will gain
great benefits and enjoyment from this development. We
will all claim in years to come that, “We were at Princes
when they opened the, ‘RED Centre’!”
Emergency Medications - After Hours
The College Health Centre is open Monday to Friday
between 8.30am and 3.30pm. It is not open for after
school sport and is closed ALL weekend. Access to the
Health Centre to obtain Student Emergency Kits after the
Health Centre is closed any weekday afternoon, may be
facilitated via senior boarding house staff or security staff.
Nevertheless, any student with a medical condition
requiring emergency medications (eg: asthma or allergy
medication), should treat any weekend or evening sport /
event at school as they would for any activity outside of
the school and have emergency medications with them
or with attending parent(s).
Staff taking students outside of the school grounds for
activities / excursions during school hours are
responsible for arranging to collect all relevant
medications and first aid kits from the Health Centre
during opening times.
