IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Varsity, JV and Middle School Competitive Sports Teams:
Some sporting activities are listed as try-‐outs. These are competitive sports teams offered at the Varsity, JV and Middle
School level. Students should sign up for the activity if they are interested but know the coach will determine their
participation. The following is information to help understand the program. Additional information will be provided from
Coaches once a team is selected.
Varsity Basketball Team: Coaches will select a maximum of 16 players. Teams will participate in the WAISAL
Basketball Tournament in Lagos on February 14 th to 17 th . Participation in this tournament is an important
requirement of the team and it should be made a priority over other school trips and events. Teams will also
participate in the LCS Bball Invitational on March 15 th and 16 th .
MS/Varsity Swim Team: Coaches will select swimmers who demonstrate proficiency with competitive swim
techniques and abilities. Several Swim Meets are Invitational and Coaches will have to select a team of 24 kids to
travel from Grades 4-‐12. The Swim Team will participate in the LCS Swim Gala on February 1 st and 2 nd and the RAS
Swim Meet in Rabat, Morocco (Grade 4-‐10 only) on May 9 th – 12 th .
MS Co-‐Ed Vball Team: Coaches will select a maximum of 24 boys and girls that compete in games. This is the first
year we have had a competitive Vball program for the MS kids and I am excited to announce that they will compete
at the WAISAL level in Ouagadougou on March 14 th – 17 th . 11 players will be selected to travel. This program needs
your support so come out and give it a try. Beginners are welcome!
JV Boys Basketball Team will be a competitive team that competes in games both on and off campus. Attendance is
mandatory at both sessions.
HS Girls/Boys Soccer is an activity to continue to develop skills and play inter-‐squad games to prepare a team of 11
players to compete at the WAISAL competition on April 11 th – 14 th . A squad will be picked from this group of players
so attendance is important.
MS Soccer and Bball Drop-‐In is an activity that allows MS kids the opportunity to continue to play Bball and Soccer
out of season. Students will create new teams each week and play friendly games against their Lincoln peers. This is
not a competitive team activity like the first semester.
Track and Field is open to students in Grade 8-‐12. We are hoping to train at El-‐Wak Stadium each week but are still
awaiting confirmation of cost. Students will board the bus at 3:30, train from 4:00 – 5:00 and then be back at Lincoln
for 5:30. Space is limited so don't miss out. More information to follow in January.
MS/HS Open Swim: This activity is for students who want to swim for their own personal fitness goals. It is not
competitive and does not offer coaching.
Taekwondo: Is popular for use of kicking techniques, which distinguishes it from Karate. The theory behind this is
that the leg is the longest and strongest weapon a martial artist has. It helps develops strength, speed, balance,
flexibility and stamina. A focus on mental, and ethical discipline, justice, etiquette, respect and self-‐confidence is one
of the major parts of this form of martial arts. We are offering a beginners class and will add an advanced class if
there is a need.
Lincoln's Shorts: Student-‐directed one-‐act plays -‐ comedies and dramas. Final performances in the NPAT on March
7th and 8 th , ends March 8th after the performances. Try-‐outs required.
Robotics: Students will build and program Lego Robots to solve problems in a competitive format. Each competition
will have several challenges where student teams-‐-‐two people per robot-‐-‐try to complete as many challenges in a
predetermined time, scoring points based on difficulty.
Fashion Techniques: This activity will teach the basic concepts of clothing design i.e. different kinds of fabric,
drafting, cutting, stitching. Students will be able to produce a blouse, skirt and a pair of trousers by the end of the
class.
Spanish Club: This activity is for intermediate and advanced students.
MS Math Club
The MS Math Club will provide students in grades 6 through 8 an opportunity to explore mathematics beyond the
classroom in a collaborative, small-‐group setting. All students that enjoy problem solving are invited to participate.
The Math Club will follow Mathcounts, which encourages students to increase their logic and problem-‐solving skills
through learning and competition. One of the goals for the club includes participation in the WAISAL Mathcounts
competition in March 2013.
“Yo GH”: A fun activity to help familiarize students with the culture of the Ghanaian people. The class will feature
lessons in conversational Twi (the prominent local language), games, food, clothing, arts & crafts and some field trips
to areas of interest in Accra.
Zumbatonic: Involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba's choreography incorporates hip-‐hop, soca, samba,
salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts, and some Bollywood and belly dance moves. Squats and lunges are also
included.
