Course Descripti<strong>on</strong>: <str<strong>on</strong>g>This</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>course</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>focus</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>acting</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>pe</strong>rformance art because I feel<br />
that in an introductory class the main idea is getting the student in fr<strong>on</strong>t of an audience.<br />
C<strong>on</strong>sequently, the majority of activities are designed with this <str<strong>on</strong>g>focus</str<strong>on</strong>g> in mind.<br />
Course Objectives: The primary objective is to familiarize the student with basic drama<br />
techniques <strong>and</strong> terminology. Also, it is my ho<strong>pe</strong> that the student <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> not <strong>on</strong>ly find Drama<br />
fun <strong>and</strong> exciting, but <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> ex<strong>pe</strong>rience the pleasure of creativity <strong>and</strong> <strong>pe</strong>rformance.<br />
Course Materials: At the beginning of the semester <strong>and</strong> again at the end students <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
write their own scripts; they <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> need pa<strong>pe</strong>r <strong>and</strong> <strong>pe</strong>ncil. Other than that they <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> be<br />
getting scripts to memorize; these <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> come home with them <strong>and</strong> must be returned at the<br />
end of each assignment.<br />
Format <strong>and</strong> Procedures: Students <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> participate in activities that <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> help them become<br />
better actors <strong>and</strong> s<strong>pe</strong>akers. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>course</str<strong>on</strong>g> is divided into <strong>acting</strong> for film <strong>and</strong> <strong>acting</strong> <strong>on</strong> the<br />
stage. During the process of memorizing <strong>and</strong> <strong>pe</strong>rforming m<strong>on</strong>ologues, scenes <strong>and</strong> short<br />
plays, students <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> discover the differences in <strong>acting</strong> for each medium. The first 10-12<br />
weeks <str<strong>on</strong>g>will</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>focus</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>acting</strong> for the stage, culminating with a final <strong>pe</strong>rformance of a group<br />
play. The last 8 weeks we explore <strong>acting</strong> for film.<br />
Course Requirements:<br />
1. Participati<strong>on</strong> in this class is the main requirement for success in this class; it<br />

2. Performance <strong>and</strong> rehearsals are in fr<strong>on</strong>t of the class <strong>on</strong>ly, however, parents<br />
<strong>and</strong> family are encouraged to come see any final <strong>pe</strong>rformances during the<br />
student’s <strong>pe</strong>riod.<br />
Students are ex<strong>pe</strong>cted to exercise good self-discipline; be <strong>on</strong> time, be prepared, <strong>and</strong> be<br />
res<strong>pe</strong>ctful.<br />
