Food Services
The food service department continued to
cater for special events such as the Colac Rodeo
(Colac Showgrounds), Annual General Meeting
and Birregurra Community Health Centre 10th
Anniversary Celebrations, as well as providing
meals across the organisation daily.

Waste Management
Colac Area Health, a member of the Barwon Waste
Wise Healthcare Network, is certified as Waste
Wise with assistance from Barwon Regional Waste
Management Group. A waste management action
plan has been developed based on the principles
of reduce; reuse and recycle.
The Annual Audit of Clinical and Related Waste
provided very positive results. Clinical and Related
Waste is managed in accordance with relevant
guidelines.
The amount of Non-Infectious Waste/Total Waste
Ratio has steadily decreased from 18.0% in 2000,
10.20% in 2003 to 3.97% in 2009. This is a clear
indication that staff are segregating waste at point
of generation.
The Annual Audit of General Waste was completed
in early June and the results confirm that CAH is
managing its Waste well.
CAH has a robust recycling program;

• Tin, Aluminium Cans, Plastic Bottles
• Scrap Metal
• Toner Cartridges
• Confidential Documents are recycled after
shredding
• Plastic Packaging, Wrapping, Bubble Wrap
was introduced this year by our local
Cardboard and Paper Recycler which had a
very positive impact by diverting the amount of
plastic going to landfill.
Colac Area Health is very proud to be certified as a
Waste Wise Organisation. This certification shall be
reviewed in July 2009.
Our efforts are supported by all staff who correctly
segregate waste at the point of generation so that
contamination of bins is reduced; which is essential
for effective recycling.
Way Finding
With the relocation of the Dental Clinic to the
main site, the need for updating the directional
information was highlighted. Identicorp were
contracted to develop a Way Finding strategy for
CAH. The outcome of this has been a user friendly
Way Finding System throughout the site.
