Stephen Minister.
Do you know someone who doesn’t get
out much Family Eldercare has a FREE
program, “Lifetime Connections without
Walls,” for that person because we all
know how very important connection and
interaction with others is for our wellbeing.
This program seeks to “build a community
over the phone.” How is that
done First, call 512-220-7076 to sign up.
Then you can chose to attend any or all of
the sessions sitting in your armchair at
home on the phone. Here is a little preview
of what is available each week:
Stephen Ministry training
begins Sept. 10 at FUMC
A new Stephen Ministry training class begins
Monday, September 10, at 7 p.m. at
First United Methodist and continues
through February 2013. The 50 hours of
training is broken down into 20 2½ hour
sessions held on Monday evenings. The
training combines sound theological principles
with contemporary psychology. The
skills our Stephen Ministers learn and
practice prepare them to provide a high
level of Christian caregiving. The training
is intense since it explores serious life issues,
but it is also a time of spiritual renewal
for the trainees.
Among the training topics are: feelings
(yours, mine and ours); the art of listening;
distinctively Christian caring; confidentiality;
ministering to the grieving; and
caring for people before, during and after
hospitalization.
About the training, Melissa Pilcher
said, “I expected to learn a lot about
caregiving but did not anticipate the personal
and spiritual growth I experienced.”

Mondays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.—
Coffee talk with Betty. Begin your week
and morning with the group to talk about
what you feel grateful for, catch up with
everyone, and share stories as you sip coffee
at home.
Tuesdays at 1 p.m. —Time is set aside
for special events like “Aging with Ease.”
Wednesdays at 1 p.m.—Armchair
Travel: Even if you can’t travel to distant
places, there are many travel stories you
can listen to over the phone with others
that will wisk you away to adventure.
(And it’s a whole lot cheaper than airline
tickets!)
Thursdays at 1 p.m.—Bingo with
Betty (and yes, you can win prizes!)
Fridays at 1 p.m.—Brain Aerobics: No
sweating with this aerobics class, but you
will ignite your brain cells with an assortment
of fun, from word games and trivia
to Family Feud games and Boggle.

will be Sunday, December 23, at 4
p.m. Dr. Bill Poe will officiate. More info
as the season draws near!
