This display of around 100 objects presents a fascinating account of the V&A’s<br />
collections of art <strong>and</strong> design from Africa. Many of the exhibits – including<br />

Hollywood Costume is a once-in-a-lifetime<br />

TREASURES OF THE ROYAL COURTS:<br />
TUDORS, STUARTS AND THE RUSSIAN TSARS<br />

The V&A reveals the majesty of the courts of<br />
Henry VIII <strong>and</strong> Elizabeth I to Ivan the Terrible<br />
<strong>and</strong> the early Romanovs in a major exhibition<br />
celebrating 500 years of exchange between<br />
Britain <strong>and</strong> Russia. Comprising more than<br />
150 objects, from royal portraits, jewellery<br />
<strong>and</strong> luxury goods to processional armour<br />
<strong>and</strong> heraldry, Treasures of the Royal Courts<br />
chronicles the close relationship between<br />
the English monarchy <strong>and</strong> the Russian Tsars.<br />
At the heart of the exhibition is a showcase<br />
of spectacular silver given to successive Russian<br />
Tsars, on exclusive loan from the Moscow<br />
Kremlin <strong>Museum</strong>s. Highlights also include a<br />
rarely shown portrait of Elizabeth I <strong>and</strong> the<br />
legendary ruby-studded Drake Star, providing a<br />
breathtaking insight into the ritual <strong>and</strong> chivalry<br />
of the royal courts.<br />

NEW PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

The first major exhibition of contemporary<br />
photography from <strong>and</strong> about the Middle East,<br />
Light from the Middle East: New Photography<br />
features over 90 works by some of the most<br />
exciting artists from across the region.<br />
Photographs by 30 artists from 13 different<br />
countries showcase a range of creative<br />
<strong>and</strong> sophisticated responses to the social<br />
challenges <strong>and</strong> political upheavals that have<br />
shaped the Middle East over the past 20<br />
years. This groundbreaking exhibition covers<br />
a wide range of techniques <strong>and</strong> subject matter,<br />
from photojournalism to staged <strong>and</strong> digitally<br />
manipulated imagery, presenting multiple<br />
viewpoints of a region where collisions<br />
between personal, social, religious <strong>and</strong><br />
political life can be emotive <strong>and</strong> complex.<br />

access to the David Bowie archive to curate<br />
the first international retrospective of the<br />
extraordinary career of David Bowie - one<br />
of the most pioneering <strong>and</strong> influential<br />
performers of modern times. David Bowie<br />
is will explore the creative processes of<br />
Bowie as a musical innovator <strong>and</strong> cultural<br />
icon, tracing his shifting style <strong>and</strong> sustained<br />
reinvention across five decades. More than<br />
300 objects will be brought together for the<br />
very first time, including h<strong>and</strong>written lyrics,<br />
original costumes, fashion, photography,<br />
film, music videos, set designs, Bowie’s own<br />
