President’s Report<br />
The month of August is always a very busy time for the <strong>Club</strong> with the<br />
Annual Ball, the Next Generation Student Event Day and of course the<br />
transition with new Board members and nominations for Governors.<br />
DOF SUBSEA ANNUAL BALL – SELL OUT EVENT<br />
The DOF Subsea Annual Ball was again a sell-out event this year which<br />
reinforces that this is the social highlight on our industry calendar<br />
attracting a wide range of industry supporters and members alike.<br />
Everyone enjoyed a fantastic evening with great entertainment,<br />
fantastic food and wonderful company. We thank all of our sponsors<br />
for <strong>you</strong>r support as it is only with <strong>you</strong>r contributions that we are able to<br />
host such a wonderful evening. Special acknowledgments must go out<br />
to: DOF Subsea, Neptune, AMC Management, Laing O’Rourke, Baker<br />
Hughes, Skilled <strong>Of</strong>fshore.<br />
NEXT DINNER EVENT: 10 SPETEMBER<br />
The 10th September dinner event is also our AGM. Our guest speaker is<br />
Michael Jacobsen, Project Manager of Fletcher Finucane representing<br />
Santos. Normal dinner event proceedings will take place from 7pm.<br />
Michael’s presentation will provide insights on the Fletcher Finucane<br />
oil project which went from discovery to projection in just under two<br />
year’s : “a cracking development timeline in anyone's language”. We<br />
are looking forward to hearing how Santos was able to achieve this fast<br />
turn-around.<br />
NEW BOARD MEMBERS<br />
We have received four (4) nominations to our Board for the new term<br />
commencing in September. These nominations have been accepted by<br />
the Board at the August meeting and will be presented for<br />
consideration by our members at the Dinner Meeting on 10th<br />
September. These nominations are: John McKelvie – BP; Natasha<br />
Trenderden – Clough; Peter Hudson – Anothen; Rick Nardi – Six<br />
Recruitment<br />
OUTGOING BOARD MEMBERS<br />
I would like to formally acknowledge the contributions and efforts of<br />
two of our Governors reaching the end of their three year term on the<br />
Board: Marie Malaxos (Past President) and Norm Mackay (Vice<br />
President Next Generation). Both of these individuals have offered a<br />
significant amount of time and expertise to the <strong>Club</strong> over the past three<br />
years and we have been extremely lucky to have access to their<br />
knowledge and insights. Both Marie and Norm have greatly<br />
contributed to the development of the <strong>Club</strong> during their term on the<br />
Board and we thank them for their efforts.<br />
A FINAL NOTE….<br />
As a final note, this is my last newsletter report as the President and also<br />
as a Board Member of the <strong>Petroleum</strong> <strong>Club</strong> of <strong>WA</strong>. It has been a very<br />
rewarding and enjoyable experience over the last three years working<br />
with my colleagues on the Board of Governors and with Ruth O'Dwyer<br />
our General Manager and her team in the office. I have valued the<br />
opportunity to be able to contribute and provide something back to<br />
the <strong>Club</strong> and the industry through my role on the Board.<br />
I will look forward to seeing <strong>you</strong> all at future <strong>Club</strong> events and thank <strong>you</strong><br />
for <strong>you</strong>r continued support our <strong>Club</strong>.<br />

Next Generation Report<br />
The final day event was held on Friday 30 August and what a great<br />
day it was to be a part of. The students have been working on the<br />
program over the past six months and and one group was selected<br />
to represent their class and their school at the Student Event Day<br />
and Mini-Expo.<br />
We would like to extend a special thank <strong>you</strong> to David West,<br />
Graduate Subsea Engineer from Woodside. David was a participant<br />
in our Schools Program when in year 10 and has recently graduated<br />
from U<strong>WA</strong> with first class honours in Mechanical Engineering in<br />
2011. David was a mentor with our Next Gen program last year and<br />
this year, presented his career journey to the students. It really is<br />
fantastic to hear about the success of our program through this<br />
wonderful ambassador for both our industry and the school<br />
program.<br />
We had presentations from the students on a range of career<br />
choices including:<br />
Drilling Engineer, Geologist, Civil Engineer, Subsea Engineer,<br />
Project Manager, Environmental Scientist, Production Engineering,<br />
Regional Maintenance Manager, Geoscience Technician, <strong>Petroleum</strong><br />
Geologist.<br />
<strong>Thank</strong> <strong>you</strong> to our Mini-Expo Supporters<br />
Our mini-expo providers were enthusiastic and volunteered their<br />
time and expertise to the students to create the interaction and<br />
engagement on a different level. We had Subsea Fly-through, 3D<br />
ROV movies, Robotic Arms for the students to mobilise, a miniature<br />
oil field for the students to explore and extract resources, safety<br />
clothing dress-up station and some scientific gadgets for the<br />
students to learn and explore.<br />
A final comment …<br />
Coming to the end of my three year term on the Board, I wish to<br />
extend my personal thanks and gratitude to all those have been<br />
involved in the Next Generation program. To our sponsors, mentors,<br />
supporters, the sub-committee and the team in the <strong>Petroleum</strong> <strong>Club</strong><br />
office, it really has been a very rewarding experience working with<br />
<strong>you</strong> all on this fantastic community and industry initiative.<br />

Roles on the Board of Governors are a great way to contribute and give<br />
back to both the <strong>Club</strong> and the industry as a whole. All Board roles are on<br />
a volunteer basis for a three year term.<br />
The Board of Governors has also accepted the current 4 nominations to<br />
Board Membership, and in line with the Constitution and <strong>Club</strong> rules,<br />
and barring any appeal, then the following 4 persons shall be accepted<br />
to the Board<br />

Also, in accordance with the constitution and <strong>Club</strong> rules, two Board<br />

the next AGM where they then stand for election, and in line with<br />
Rule 4.5 that no Board member shall serve on the Board for more than<br />
3 years after election, these Board members are considered to be<br />
entering their 2nd year of service at this election.<br />
