evening each month byour new CFI, James Weston,<br />

aided by deputy Mervyn Farrell, have already<br />

encouraged several cross-countries.<br />

Congratulations to Harry Hanna on gaining his<br />

Bronze and Silver on consecutive weekends.<br />

WELLAND (Middle/on)<br />

Our thanks'to Coventry GC for their hospitality<br />

during their task week when Barry Chadwick and<br />

Keith &ott won their Class with their Dart 17R.<br />

<strong>No</strong>rman Martin had an eventful week - to<br />

Evesham, barograph failure in mid-flight, to<br />

Nympsfield, no barograph, finally to Hertford with<br />

everything OK. All three flights were good for all<br />

three Silver legs. Andy Parrish won his Silver with<br />

three flights, Peter Strong with two and Bernard<br />

Underwoocl completed his with a 5hrs. Dave<br />

Strachan managed distance and height.<br />

Alex Strachan has both Bronze legs, Jim<br />

Skorupa and Jamie Scolt one each while Paul<br />

Warburton has completed his Bronze badge.<br />

Chris Charlesly, Gary Clipston and Ken Payne<br />

have gone solo and Gerard O'Callaghan has an<br />

AEI rating. Congratulations all round.<br />

WREKIN (RAF Cosford)<br />

We recently had a 50km frenzy with Jim Francey,<br />

Joe Wait, Dave Gelder and Rick Jones landing at<br />

Burnaston and completing their Silver badges.<br />

Graham Bell flew to Sealand for his Silver distance,<br />

achieving his height on the way.<br />

Dale lHen€lerson, John Cook and Ken Greenwood<br />

have gone solo and Kevin Goodey, Bob<br />

Henderson, <strong>No</strong>rman Polts and Jim Ellis have a<br />

few Bronze legs between them. Griff shot round a<br />

100km triangle at 100km!h while Mick Davis<br />

went round his one evening. After 20 years in the<br />

game, Keith Harsant has finally managed to<br />

somehow get round a 300km triangle. Well<br />

done!<br />

The Chipmunk has had its C of A and our<br />

thanks 10 all who helped. Rob Roscoe is now a<br />

full Ca\.<br />

WYVERN (RAF Upavon)<br />

Bob Brett has gained his Silver distance .and<br />

duration, Andy Mills his duration and Justin<br />

Lavender his Silver badge. Ken Moules claimed<br />

Diamond distance in Australia and Tim Clark has<br />

gone solo.<br />

Adrian Matyear is now a full Cat and Pat<br />

Farrelly and Dawn Bradley have become assistant<br />

Cats. Congralulations to them all.<br />

YORK GLIDING CENTRE (Rufforth Airfield)<br />

We have extended our ownership of the airlield<br />

by buying 30 acres west of the runway to give<br />

greater flexibility. particularly when winching. We<br />

are grateful to members who have donated<br />

expertise and money to make this pOSSible.<br />

Almost all ourcou rses are full and we have had<br />

trial instruction lesson booked on every midweek<br />

evening since the middle of May.<br />

Membership continues to grow and we are<br />

pleased to see the junior contingent increasing.<br />

YORKSHIRE (Sulton Bank)<br />

The wonderlul weather brought wave up to<br />

16000ft in May and good thermals. May 10 was<br />

good with lan Stromberg and Adrian Halton gaining<br />

Diamond distances and Chris Teagle a Gold<br />

distance and Diamond goal. Congratulations<br />

also to Chris Clark and Steve Hughes on their<br />

Silver distances.<br />

The wave has brought heignt claims for<br />

Stewart Heaton (Diamond), John Birch (Gold)<br />

and Steve Hill (Silver). .<br />

Congratulations particularly to Mike Brook<br />

(SHK) who clawed his way around 430km on a<br />

difficult day. Thanks to Mike also for organising<br />

the May task week when he had one flight of<br />

480km and one of over SOOkm on June 4 to<br />

<strong>No</strong>rth Hill.<br />

John Hart attempted L"Cisham O/R on June 4<br />

and although he didn't complete the task he flew<br />

572km, landing near Chesterlield in the same<br />

field as Phil Lazenbywho had flown 380km in his<br />

Oly 463.<br />
