(Cf).
our honorees this year are brad & Jill Green. it is our privilege to recognize them
for their dedication to the advancement of Cf research and fundraising in the
northwest.
The improved quality of life and increased life expectancy of Cf patients is
directly related to the generosity of you, the attendees at this event. with current
advancements, we are so close to stopping this terrible disease, and with the funds
raised on november 13, we will accomplish great things.
on behalf of all the families touched by Cf, we ask you to make a difference, as you
have in the past. dig deeply and give from your hearts. become a shining star in our

we would like to introduce you to some of the faces of
cystic fibrosis (Cf). They all wear the same smile and
in their eyes you see reflections of hope and optimism
for the day when a cure for their disease is found. with
your help—one day soon—we will find a cure and then
cystic fibrosis won’t have a face at all.
whaT is CysTiC fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that
affects the lungs and digestive systems of approximately

30,000 children and adults in the united states. more
than 10 million americans are symptomless carriers of
the defective cystic fibrosis gene. The disease occurs in one of every 3,900 live births,
and about 1,000 new cases of Cf are diagnosed each year.
when the Cystic fibrosis foundation began, few children
with Cf lived to attend elementary school. Today, thanks
to the efforts of scientists, caregivers and the development
of new treatments supported by the foundation, the
median age of survival for a person with Cf is 37 years.
a remarkable improvement—although it is not good
enough as we continue to lose at least one precious life to
cystic fibrosis every day.

since 1955, the mission of the Cystic fibrosis foundation is to assure the
development of the means to cure and control Cf and to improve the quality of
life for those with the disease. The foundation tirelessly pursues this mission by
supporting innovative research dedicated to discovering and developing new therapies
and by funding and accrediting specialized care centers to treat people with the
disease.
The Cystic fibrosis foundation is one of the most efficient organizations of its
kind. it has received a four-star rating for sound fiscal management from Charity
navigator, the largest independent charity evaluator in the united states, and is an
accredited charity of the better business bureau’s wise Giving alliance.

abouT The award
The breath of Life award is presented annually to an organization or individual who
has provided exceptional support in the fight against Cf. it has become a tradition
for the Patrons of Cystic fibrosis to present each breath of Life award recipient
with a stunning hand-blown glass vessel. for us, this vessel
symbolizes the contrast between the breath that is used to
blow a glass piece and the lack of breath with which those
stricken with Cf must live each day.

The star was selected as a symbol by the Patrons of Cystic fibrosis based on a
poignant passage from Alex, the Life of a Child by frank deford. The book was written
in tribute to his daughter, and the following passage was about the night she died at
the age of eight.
It was bitter cold and still, the way most winter’s nights with clear skies
are, and now ... looking up one more time, I suddenly remembered one of
my father’s favorite quotations, from Shakespeare. He had recited it to me
when I was a boy. It was Juliet, talking of her love:
When he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heav’n so fine
That all the world will be in love with Night
And pay no worship to the garish Sun.

1. all sales are final, and there will be no exchanges, refunds or extensions on items except

2. a “Guaranteed bid” placed before the silent auction or super silent auction closing
time will end all bidding and guarantee the sale of that item to the premium bidder. a
