SAFETY INITIATIVES
“Part of being a learning-centered environment means ensuring that
our campus community is confident about their safety and security.
When we do that, students can focus on the things that they need to
focus on to be successful.”
- President Paul Brown
The highly visible Automatic
External Defibrillators (AED) signs
are located in several locations
around campus.
E911 improves response time
Thanks to a technology grant from The AT&T Foundation, the Zanesville campus—with cooperation from
the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department and the county 911 coordination office—built a
technology infrastructure for enhanced 911 software and text messaging. Now, when 911 is dialed from
campus, first responders can pinpoint the location quickly, saving precious minutes as they respond to
the emergency.
practicing preparedness
In October, the campus worked with the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department to stage a
mass flu shot exercise on campus. The Zane State College/Ohio University-Zanesville campus has been
designated as a Point of Distribution in the event that a pandemic flu occurs in our area. This exercise
was a test of the campus’s capability to accomplish the immunization of large portions of the Muskingum
County Community. Happily, the campus passed the “test” with flying colors.
AED INITIATIVE
Four Automatic External Defibrillators, (AEDs), were installed in The Campus Center, Elson Hall, College
Hall, and the Willett-Pratt Training Center in Cambridge. Twenty-seven employees between the two
campuses completed AED certification training. The campus goal is to have an AED in each building by
2009.
