Universities and Research<br />
Bodies<br />
<strong>Vaisala</strong> collaborates closely with a number of<br />
meteorological authorities and research bodies<br />
around the world, such as the Finnish Meteorological<br />
Institute, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland,<br />
Aalto University, School of Science and Technology,<br />
the US National Center for Atmospheric Research, the<br />
US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,<br />
the American Meteorological Society, and the<br />
International Civil Aviation Organization. <strong>Vaisala</strong> is<br />
also an active member of the UN World Meteorological<br />
Organization, WMO.<br />
<strong>Vaisala</strong> grants research scholarships to universities,<br />
students and researchers in the United States and<br />
Finland. In <strong>2011</strong>, <strong>Vaisala</strong> was involved in many research<br />
and development projects with universities and other<br />
providers of higher education.<br />
Investors, Owners and<br />
Financial Institutions<br />
<strong>Vaisala</strong> Oyj is a publicly listed company on the<br />
NASDAQ OMX Helsinki stock exchange. The<br />
largest individual owner is the Finnish Academy of<br />
Science and Letters (Suomalainen tiedeakatemia).<br />
The foundation donates its earnings from <strong>Vaisala</strong><br />
shares to the Yrjö, Vilho and Kalle Väisälä Fund,<br />
which supports research in natural sciences. Other<br />
large shareholders include descendants of founder<br />
Professor Vilho Väisälä, private households, private<br />
companies, institutional investors and non-profit<br />
organizations. Foreign ownership amounts to 14.7%<br />
of share capital.<br />
