Third year Bachelor of Arts student
and holder of 9th place in the Irish
Dancing World Championships
2014 (and All Ireland, Dublin and
Leinster Irish Dancing Champion!)
“Hi, I’m Rachel Murphy and I am a second year
undergraduate student in Maynooth. I am
currently studying History and English as a
double major Arts degree. I commute every
day to and from university with a 5.45am start
every morning, and I usually don’t get home
every evening until around 9.30pm, as I do Irish
dancing as a sport as well as competitively.
I have won many dancing titles including All
Ireland, Dublin and Leinster Champion. My most
recent and greatest achievement was placing
9th in the Irish Dancing World Championships
2014, something I thought I could never achieve.
Whilst trying to stay on top of my six-days-aweek
training, I also have to work hard to keep
up with all my readings and essays for university.
I have done this for the two years I have been in
Maynooth and it has been a challenging task.
However it has kept me disciplined as well as
helping me to meet my deadlines both inside and
outside of the University. As I have to balance
study and dancing, staying organised has
become a very important and will undoubtedly
stand to me when I go out into the working
world after I have finished my degree”.
