St. James—St. Leo Catholic Community is under the pastoral care of the Eudist Fathers, or Congregation of Jesus and Mary. We owe our
name to Saint John Eudes who founded the Congregation in France in 1643. The Eudists currently operate in 15 countries, most of which are
in the developing world. Evangelization, mainly with the poor and the youth, is our primary purpose, as well as formation to ministry in the
training of diocesan priests and lay ministers. Our motto is “To Serve Christ and His Church.” For more information visit:
Santa P. John Howard, CJM; P. Juan Castillo, CJM, y
la Hna. Zita Toto, OLC.
¡¡¡Felices Pascuas de Resurrección!!!.
REFLECTION DOMINICAL
will begin on Wednesday
evening Apr 10, 2013 at 7 p.m. in
The seven‐week Returning Catholics
Program is designed to assist
those who wish to consider returning to the Church. The
program includes updating in the beliefs and practices of
the Catholic Church, listening to the stories of those who
have been away and, most importantly, helping them
reconcile any negative feelings they may have about the
Church. Many of the team members have themselves
been away from the Church for a number of years and are
uniquely suited to appreciating the stories of those who
are considering returning. The program ends with an
opportunity to experience the Sacrament of Reconciliation
in the context of a relaxed scripture‐based reconciliation
service.
Feast of Faith
A walk-through of the Mass from beginning to end
The Gloria
The Gloria, or Glory to God, follows the penitential rite.
Both are acts of praise. In the penitential rite, we sing of
the mercy of Christ. In the Gloria we praise God’s saving
action in the universe.
The Gloria is a relatively late addition to the Mass. It first
appeared in the Roman liturgy in the sixth century, and
then it was sung only by the pope—and only on Christmas!
With time, the hymn came to be sung by bishops on
major feasts, and then by priests; finally, it became the
song of the entire assembly. With the advent of more
elaborate musical settings, the people gradually stopped
singing the Gloria, until this song of the people became
the exclusive domain of the priest and the choir. But the
liturgical reforms have restored it to its place as primarily
the song of the assembly.
Our reflection on the Easter readings may be as profound as
any throughout the liturgical year. Stewards understand that
this life is merely a prelude
to the next life — that is
why they live as stewards.
They recognize that what
they seek is a heavenly reward,
not an earthly one.
Thus the question they
must ask is not “What is in
this for me” The question
the good steward asks is,
“How can I serve”
We are called to be an Easter
people. There is a significant
difference between
being an Easter people and
just a Church people. If we
are truly an Easter people,
our focus is on the victory
which Christ’s Resurrection presents to us.
Easter and the promise it presents us make us a joyful people,
who worship with a sense of hope and confidence. Easter people
as good stewards live their lives with an attitude of gratitude,
not a sense of obligation. Easter people do not fear
death, but have comfort in the promises and salvation of
Christ.
