Inappropriate use of electronic devices during the class period, including cell phones, graphing
calculators, ipods, etc., will result in confiscation by the teacher and returned at the end of the block on the first
offense. Any further offenses will result in confiscation of the device and turned over to an administrator.
SAFETY is mandatory in the chemistry lab. You will be working with materials that will require special
handling. Safety rules will be handed out and the safety contract MUST be signed by a parent or guardian and
the student before you will be allowed to participate in labs. HORSEPLAY of any kind will not be tolerated, no
matter how harmless it seems. If you display inappropriate behavior of any kind in the lab, you will be asked
to take your seat and receive a ZERO for that lab. Depending on the severity, it may also result in an office
referral.
Ralston Valley Honor Code: Challenge yourself to be a person others admire…be honest,
responsible, and respectful.
Be aware that we hold academic integrity in high regard. We wish to encourage you to do your own
work; your grades will suffer if you don’t. Any infraction relating to academic integrity will result in one-half credit
on the first offense and parent contact. Subsequent offenses will receive zero credit and parent contact. Issues
that relate to academic integrity include, but are not limited to:
- Copying any assignment in part or full
- Allowing any of your work to be copied
- Sharing any interpretation of data on a lab
- Using information about a test in advance to better your score (i.e. from another block or year)
In general, your work should be a product of your thoughts. Be cautious of “working together”. While discussion
among students is immensely important to learning and is encouraged by your teachers, the product of that
learning shall be your own. If you find yourself in a situation where you feel that sacrificing your academic
integrity is the only way for you to get the points or grade you need, come talk to us in advance. We find that
often, students engage in these practices due to lack of understanding, fear of failure, lack of preparation or any
combination. Whatever your reason for considering an academic integrity violation, we would like to help you
solve the real underlying issue.
Please have your parents/guardian read this introduction and sign the form. You will receive 10 points for
returning the signed form.
Good luck, work hard, have fun!
