The past 15 months for the Ameri can
Bonanza Society has been a peri od of
getting our house in order. The majority
of th e staft's efforts and a larg e portion
of the Society's resources have been
devoted to providing the Society with
the tools to go forward into the future.
The move to Wichita had to be
accomplished, a new staff had to be
hired and trained, a permanent
headquarters designed, built, furnished
and put into operation. The Newsletter
required work both in format and
content. And, oh yes, your new
Executive Director had to learn the in's
and out's of operating an association,
which is a truly unique business. This
education continues every day .
Occasionally mistakes are made, but
always lessons learned.
Now all the tools are ready and it is
time to proceed with some new projects
that will provide a wider range of
services than have ever been available
to members before.
First on the list of new endeavors is
the Bonanza Pilot Checkout Program,
which will be introduced in the spring.
This program will give every Bonanza
pilot the opportunity to receive an
indepth training program similar to the
BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY
Dear ABS:
On a recent trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma I
had the unfortunate luck that all pilots
have from time to time and was
weathered out of my intended
destination . I landed in McAl ester,
Oklahoma, and to my good fortune,
stopped at Henley Air, Inc .
As it was very important that I keep
my business appointment and it was
late and no rental transportation was
available, Mr. Henley went out of his
way to be understanding and solved my
problem by giving me the use of his
personal automobile for as long as I
needed it.
I feel that this sort of service is
above and beyond the call of duty and
certainly worth a mention to our
membership.
NEW SOURCE_OF FUEL
CELLS
Floats & Fuel Cells, Inc. , 2845
Hangar Road, Memphis, Tenn. 38118,
phone 800/ 647-6148, now has an STC
to manufacture 40 gallon fuel cells for
H-35 thru V-35ATC Vee Tails and the
model 36 Bonanza.
programs av,ailalble
operators of large corporate aircraft. It
is the most ambitious project ever taken
on by an aviation organization of our
size and scope. It should prove to be a
major contribution to aviation safety.
Later in 1983 the ABS plans to
introduce audio visual programs in Beta
and VH S format. These programs will
be directed specifically at Bonanza
maintenance and fl ight procedures.
Gradually during 1983 your Society
will introduce a limited line of
commercial products such as binders,
patches, hats, jackets, ties, and jewelry;
all bearing the ABS logo. This is being
done in response to requests for such
products from members.
The ASS will have a hospitality tent
for the exclusive use of Society
members at the EAA fly-in at Oshkosh,
Wi sconsin . This will give members a
place to rest, get a soft drink, leave
packages, share AB S fellowship and
get a break from the press of the huge
crowds that attend this event each
year.
Established ABS services will also
get attention. The Newsletter is
scheduled to see two new series of
articles. The first is ongoing articles
developed by Airmanship on flying the
Bonanza. The ASS staff is also
developing a series on Bonanza Annual
Inspections.
The Service Clinic Program is
scheduled to be expanded, provided
qualified personnel can be found to
operate these cli nics.
So 1983 should be a banner year for
the Society . There is one piece of old
business that still must be attended to.
Even though the building is completed.
the org anization has not fully recovered
from the large financial burden that was
placed upon it to carry out the building
program. Donations are still $3 5,000
short of offsetting costs. So each
member is asked to make a tax
deductible contribution to the ASS/ ASF
Building Fund. If we are to proceed
with all our programs we must be
financially secure.
It's yo ur headquarters, your
Newsletter, your programs, your
Society. The organization needs your
help.
Let's all of us be careful up there.
