11 Our work with providers suggested that significant savings could be made.<br />
Reducing the cost of information <strong>report</strong>ing and assurance would help avoid spending<br />
reductions bearing disproportionately on services to learners. The colleges we visited<br />
suggested they may be able to reduce costs by around half. Although we doubted<br />
whether an immediate reduction on this scale would be practicable, a reduction of<br />
around a quarter would, for example, represent a reduction in providers’ costs in the<br />
region of £60–75 million.<br />
