DEAR PARENTS, ALUMNI AND FRIENDS,
IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE that I welcome you to this
evening’s concert –“A 40th Christmas Celebration.”
In this year of The Heights School’s 40th anniversary, we
celebrate four decades of “Keeping Faith with Every Boy”—
in the intellectual, moral, physical, and spiritual education
of young men. I am especially grateful for our parents, who
entrust their sons to us for this formation!
Our program this evening features twelve Christmas
selections performed by the Boys’ Choir, the Men’s Chorus,
the Symphonic Winds, the Chamber Winds, and the Jazz Band.
The final piece is a sing-a-long and we are counting on your
exceptional participation! We thank our students for their
determined preparation under the outstanding leadership,
encouragement and guidance of Dr. Kevin Strother and
Mr.Patrick Love.
Join me in continuing to celebrate this anniversary year of the
School, and let’s see this Christmas Concert as a joyful Advent
preparation for the coming of Christmas.

B O Y S ’ C H O I R
The Boys’ Choir is a dedicated group of young men who love to sing!
Created three years ago in an effort to provide an outlet for the musical
talent and excitement in grades three through six, the Boys’ Choir has
performed at The White House for President George W. Bush, as well
as a number of other school venues including the music concerts, gala
and school-wide masses. Our boys continue to expand their repertoire
performing alone in two or more parts, and together with the Men’s
Chorus or Wind Ensemble.

C H A M B E R W I N D S
The Chamber Winds is the premier performing concert ensemble for
winds and percussion at The Heights School. Comprised mostly of upper
school students, the Chamber Winds performs the most technically and
musically demanding music in the repertoire. Our students work very
hard to create a beautiful and balanced sound, rising to the challenge of
technically difficult, masterful musical excerpts.

J A Z Z B A N D
The Jazz Band is the premier-performing jazz ensemble for winds and
percussion at The Heights School. Four years ago the jazz band was the
recipient of a Washington Post “Grants in the Arts,” for its work on the
program, Jazz for the Jernerations, which connected outreach to the
community with awareness of America’s first art music, Jazz. In its sixth
year, the jazz band continues to foster education in improvisation, a
desire for the rhythm and style of jazz, and a challenge to perform with
great precision and excitement.

M E N ’ S C H O R U S
The Men’s Chorus began with only five singers. In the past ten years
the Chorus has expanded into two groups, the Singing Cavaliers and the
A’Cappella Singers. The 60 member ensemble has won numerous awards
and performed for various dignitaries and organizations including, The White
House for President George W. Bush. They have sung with the Washington
Men’s Camarata under the direction of Frank Albinder and have been
invited to sing with the Harvard Glee Club. The Men’s Chorus was invited to
perform at “The Disney Honors”, an invitation only workshop and concert.
They have also performed for The Heritage Foundation Gala, the past two
Center for Education reform Galas, Governor Jeb Bush and Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger and the Department of Justice awards ceremony.
The Heights Men’s Chorus has become a well respected performing
ensemble with a rich tradition of Men’s Choral Music. They regularly
fill one of the countries premiere concert halls, The Music Center at
Strathmore and performed a winter tour in Austria. They pride themselves
on traditional a’cappella music written for men’s voices. Many of its
members have gone on to perform in colleges and universities around the
country such as the US Naval Academy, Notre Dame, Fordham, Davidson,
Dallas, Providence and the University of Virginia.

S Y M P H O N I C B A N D
The Symphonic Band is the second performing ensemble for winds
and percussion at The Heights School, comprised of 6th-8th graders
with 2-5 years of experience. The Symphonic Band continues to be
the ensemble in which members of the The Heights School receive
training in ensemble playing, preparing them for performance with the
Chamber Winds.
