Widely regarded as one of the finest sportfishing
boats in the world, Albemarle Boats was founded on
an idea that each of us has uttered in our own lives:
“Sometimes, if you want something done right, you just
have to do it yourself.”
In the mid 1970’s, J. Scott Harrell Sr. found himself in just
such a predicament. For several years he had owned a
thriving boat dealership selling the kind of sportfishing
boats that he and his family felt were the best available
at the time. The problem was, when customers would
trade in a boat he had sold them just a few years
earlier, he found that it took a tremendous amount of
work to get the boats ready for resale. Even though
these were some of the top brands, they were just not
built strongly enough to stand up to the unforgiving
waters of the Albemarle Sound and the rugged seas off
Cape Hatteras.
Unwilling to accept anything less than the very best
for his customers, Harrell began a quest to design
and build the strongest, most dependable, and best
fishing boat imaginable. Being located in the colonial
seaport of Edenton, North Carolina allowed Harrell
to attract some of the most talented and respected
marine craftsmen in the industry who shared his
passion to create boats that would establish new levels
of excellence in ride, safety and fishability. In 1978,
“Hull #1,” a 24-foot cuddy that is still in active service
today, rolled out and began what is now a history of
enduring success.
Today, Albemarle continues to enhance and develop
its boats through a combination of firm values
and customer-focused design. Built one at a time,
every Albemarle that leaves our factory is a clear
reflection of an unrelenting commitment to quality
and craftsmanship that few products can rival. From
our classic hand-laid Carolina style hull, to the custom
cabinetry below decks, to the meticulous attention
to detail in every inch of wiring, you quickly see why
Albemarle has received numerous industry awards and
earned a reputation as the premiere sportfishing boat
for serious offshore anglers.
For nearly 30 years, our company has been changing
and adapting to pioneer new advances in marine
manufacturing, and we stand unwaveringly on principles
of quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction that
will never change.
Superior Ride
For more than a quarter
of a century, we have been
driven by a passion to produce
the world’s best offshore
fishing boats. Although there
are many arguments as to
why Albemarle is regarded
as one of the most admired
boats on the water today,
our customers tell us there
are three main reasons they
will never own any other
boat but an Albemarle.
Let’s face it, the most important factor in your enjoyment and safety on the
open sea is the design and construction of the hull, and there is simply no
other sportfishing boat in our category that can favorably compare to the
durability, strength, ruggedness and especially the ride of an Albemarle.
Albemarles are built on the foundation of the legendary Carolina hull,
with its dramatic deadrise and elegant bow flare and have been evolving
through decades of input from top naval architects. We have created a boat
that is now legendary for its ability to take on even the most brutal head seas
with comfort and confidence, track effortlessly in following or breaking seas
and deliver a steady, stable platform whether trolling in the gulf stream or
cruising with your family on the bay.
But just as important as the smooth, dry ride of an Albemarle, is the
incredible lengths we go through to hand-build the strongest and safest hull
possible. Throughout the long process of design and production, quality
control procedures at every level ensure that all materials, components
and finishes are of the highest order. Under the watchful eyes of our master
craftsmen, each hull is subjected to a series of exacting tests to verify that it
meets or exceeds our internal standards for flawlessness and function.
Once it has passed all of these standards, a new phase of testing begins.
To say that we overbuild our hulls would be an understatement.
WHY albemarle
Albemarle = Fishability
The Albemarle Family
Our boats are built by serious fishermen, for serious fishermen.
We know what it is like to run 70 miles out to the canyons to chase tuna.
We understand what you need when you’re backing down on a marlin in
the last five minutes of a tournament. We’ve been out there when the bite
is on and the weather turns bad, but you really want to keep fishing.
And we have built a boat to do all of this and more.
A hull that will let you fish safely on days when other boats are stuck at
the dock. Wide open cockpits with plenty of room for you and your crew
to work a fish. Spacious cabins that are comfortable and stylish. Plenty
of storage, in just the right places. Rod holders where you need them.
Gunwales at the right height for gaffing or tagging. Huge fishboxes.
Big livewells. Well-designed bait stations. Custom built tuna towers…
At Albemarle, you are not a number, you are a friend. We take great
pride in providing the highest level of customer service of any boat
manufacturer…anywhere.
From the folks on the shop floor to our president, every employee at
Albemarle is dedicated to building customer relationships as strong and
long lasting as our boats. Visit almost any major boat show, and our entire
management team will be there, talking to customers and dealers, asking
for feedback and ideas – and listening carefully. We are very proud of the
National Marine Manufacturer’s Association Customer Satisfaction Index
(CSI) awards we’ve received. We continue to read every single survey that
comes into our office, and look for ways to completely delight our owners
in all aspects of our service.
Whether trolling off Cabo for striped marlin or running the bays of the
New Jersey shore for striped bass, everything about an Albemarle is
designed to let you focus on what you bought the boat for…
fishing, safety, and fun.
A lot of companies just talk about superior customer service
– but at Albemarle, your complete satisfaction with our boats is our
number one priority. We will do whatever it takes to make sure your
Albemarle ownership experience is pleasurable, hassle-free,
and one of the best decisions you’ve ever made.
The number one reason that boaters and fishermen choose
to purchase an Albemarle is because we deliver unmatched quality.
• We deliver quality through the use of only the best components available.
• We deliver quality through advanced construction techniques and testing.
We realize that to own one of our boats is a considerable investment,
and that is why we are committed to providing the best value to our
customers. Here is just a sampling of the lengths we go to in order to
ensure that every Albemarle is of the highest quality possible.
Design & Construction
Hull Design
At the heart of every Albemarle is our legendary “Carolina” hull.
For almost 30 years our company has been committed to creating
the most solid, rugged and seaworthy boats on the water.
Recognizing generation after generation of North Carolina
boatbuilding heritage, but with a nod to modern marine
architecture, all Albemarle hulls are designed on a 3 to 1 length
to beam ratio. This “Carolina Formula” was created by the
legendary boat builders of the Outer Banks, and has become
a standard through years of rough water sea trials, decades of
experience, and now computer model testing by today’s naval
architects. A sharp dead rise, extra wide bow flare, and perfect
length to beam balance prove that each Albemarle is engineered
to deliver the smoothest most stable ride possible.
While utilizing the latest technologies,
every hull is still an extension of
our time tested original.
Albemarle Quality
Construction Techniques
Electrical & Mechanical Systems
Using state-of-the-art Armorcoat ® Gelcoat, vinylester
and polyester resins, and the most up-to-date fiberglass
materials, skilled laminators painstakingly hand-lay every
aspect of the Albemarle hull. XL Marine Grade Fir stringers
provide the infrastructure and backbone to the
Albemarle Battlewagons. Although these
stringers carry a lifetime guarantee,
Albemarle standards require that
each piece be fiberglass encapsulated
before being glassed and bonded into
the hull. In areas above the waterline
on our 360s and 410s, Baltec Coring is
sandwiched between layers of fiberglass to provide increased
strength in long spans such as hull sides and across transoms.
Similar to the construction of Albemarle
hulls, all decks, liners, cabins and
superstructures are hand-laid as onepiece
parts. To ensure the strongest
and most waterproof construction
possible, Albemarle takes advantage
of a “shoebox” deck to hull assembly
process. In conjunction with exacting
tolerances for fit, a combination of 316L
stainless steel bolts and 3M ® sealants
are used to create a hull to deck bond
that will not flex, separate, or leak.
When installing cockpit and cabin liners,
Plexis ® adhesive and fiberglass tabbing
are utilized for maximum bonding
strength. On all anchor points of increased stress such as cleats, bow
rails, and tower attachments, 3/4 inch plywood backing is added to
the laminate schedule for added strength and safety.
Another advantage of Albemarle’s dedication to quality is that
engine rooms and bilge compartments are hand sanded and
sealed with grey gelcoat. The grey gel doesn’t show the dust, dirt,
or oil that is common in most white engine rooms. Albemarle has
also designed “false bilges” in these areas to keep salty bilge water
off engines and other mechanical components. On deck, the hatches
are built with state-of-the-art two-piece vacuum assisted molds that
give them a smooth finish on all sides. It is this attention to fit and
finish that makes the boat easy to clean and give it a
new appearance after many years of use.
Great care is taken on every Albemarle to ensure that engine room
access is as easy and comfortable as possible. Hydraulic or gas
assisted engine hatches lift effortlessly to reveal well laid-out and
well lit compartments that are open and convenient for routine
maintenance such as oil and filter changes.
All components chosen for the construction of an Albemarle are
of the highest grade. Below the water-line, flanged bronze thru-hull
fittings with double hose clamps are utilized while above the
water-line, stainless components add to the “finished” look of
the boat. Multiple bilge pumps, float switches, high water alarms,
and automatic fire protection systems only add to the level
of assurance that every Albemarle owner has in their vessel.
An entirely up-dated electrical system utilizing waterproof Deutch
Connectors in a “plug-and-play” system along with an ABYC
certified color-coded grid, make maintenance, tracing, and trouble
shooting a breeze. All systems carry heavy-duty Coast Guard
approved breakers and only marine-grade sealed and insulated
tinned copper wire that is tie wrapped and secured to avoid chaffing.
A l b e m a r l e Q U A L I T Y
Well known for its exceptional fit and finish,
every surface on an Albemarle is hand worked,
meticulously inspected and re-worked to perfection.
At Albemarle, our cabinet shop provides quality, hand made wood interiors crafted
by master carpenters with decades of woodworking experience. Selecting only the
finest teak and cherry woods, each and every piece is custom built, fit and finished
with a level of care that is evident in the precision of the joinery and the deep satin
finish. Much the same as the cabinetry,
all interior upholstery is hand made by
our in-house team which selects each
fabric for its durability, high quality,
and comfort. Larger vessels receive
the advanced noise reduction of
Whisper Wall ® treatments for
added comfort and styling.
Throughout the cabin, Albemarle
chooses only top-of-the-line brands.
Our galleys feature solid surface
countertops with integrated sinks
and refrigerator/freezer systems.
Our entertainment packages give you the option of Bose ®
or Sony ® DVD/CD players and flat panel LCD TVs.
The live-aboard comforts of all our cabin boats are
enhanced by the quality of every appliance and
design element we implement.
At the helm, the captain is in complete
control, comfortable and close to the action.
The helm of each Albemarle is strategically
designed to provide easy view of all engine
gauges for the captain and crew. Indicator lights and manual override buttons for bilge
pumps also add a sense of security for users. There is ample room on every model for
flush mounting all essential electronics. Lockable overhead boxes provide additional
room for electronics, charts, and storage.
Albemarle only uses top-of-the-line pedestal mounted captain’s and companion chairs
and all on-deck upholstery is selected from the most weather resistant and highestgrade
materials. The upholstery shop at the Albemarle factory ensures that quality of
construction and stitching are of the highest degree.
Every Express model comes standard with tinted windshields with safety glass to
protect from shattering. Further, powder-coating these windshields greatly reduces
any chance of corrosion. Wipers are standard on all applicable models to ensure
excellent visibility in inclement weather.
Hardtop frames, towers and bow rails are locally crafted from oversized anodized
aluminum for easy maintenance and are designed for strength as well as functionality.
All other hardware such as cleats, fasteners and fixtures are
of the highest-grade 316L stainless steel for
maximum corrosion resistance.
Albemarle Quality
Fishing Features
When we say “Built to Fish” we mean it. Every Albemarle is factory equipped with an
abundance of high-end fishing features usually reserved for much larger sportfishing boats.
Cockpits
The cockpits are designed to be spacious and unobstructed with functionality and easy maintenance a
priority. Integrated non-skid decks provide sure footing and the gunwales are designed at the right height
for safely gaffing or tagging fish. On our 310XF and all larger models, the cockpit features a standard
aluminum backing plate laminated into the deck for the easy addition of a fighting chair or rocket launcher.
Fishboxes
Every Albemarle, including our trailerable models,
features clean transoms with large, integrated,
double hatched fishboxes. For added fishing
performance, the transom fishboxes stop short of
the deck to allow toe space for better balance while
fighting a fish at the transom. In-deck fishboxes are
designed to be removable, allowing for easy clean
up and convenient access to the bilge.
Our cockpits are big enough for a
large crew to get into the action
and still work comfortably.
Rigging Options
Albemarle strives to provide the best in
rigging options for our boats. Deep rounded
livewells keep baits lively and the molded-in
rigging stations can be customized with
freezer systems, sinks, and drink boxes.
Our outriggers come from such notable
manufacturers as Taco ® , Lee ® and Rupp ® .
The hardtops and tower packages come
equipped with side rocket launchers spreader
lights and electronics storage and come
standard with full enclosures. Tackle storage
and drawers are abundant and make gear
stowage simple and easily accessible.
Rod Storage
As a sportfish builder, finding creative and secure places to
store your rods is an important component in the design
of every model. In addition to generous under gunwale
storage, we utilize a number of other areas such as ceiling
rod storage in the V-berths, strategically placed tubing in the
helm deck, ample space under sofas in the cabins, and very
secure, lockable storage under helm seating.
Trailerable Boats
242CC I 248XF I 268XF
T r a i l e r a b l e b o a t s
For the angler who desires the ultimate in a highly mobile fishing platform, the Albemarle
trailerables, our 242, 248 and 268, are literally in a class by themselves. Hand built to a
standard of ruggedness and dependability that is unrivaled in the industry, each of these
boats delivers the ride, feel, and sea keeping characteristics of a boat ten feet larger.
Much of this advantage is a direct result of Albemarle’s unique Jackshaft Power System
(JPS). Moving the engine forward places the weight and power in the center of the hull,
dramatically increasing stability and performance. When you push down the throttles on
one of these boats, it is completely different from the way any outboard responds. On an
Albemarle with the JPS, you can feel the weight and strength of the boat as the duo-props
quickly accelerate it forward with the reassuring hum of a solid power plant at your feet.
Albemarle’s JPS also allows these boats to fish like no other trailerable on the market.
Once again, because of the placement of the engine, these boats offer a solid, stable ride,
and a smooth, clean wake for trolling that no outboard can match. Perhaps most
important, is that with the JPS you get an unencumbered transom for superior fishability.
Just think, no bulky engines to look over the top of, try to fish around, and hope you don’t
get snagged on. There is nothing quite like the feel of standing on the deck of one of these
boats with a clear view of all of your baits as you strain to see if the shadow under the
short rigger is really the 400 pound marlin your racing heart hopes that it is.
Add to this incredible package plenty of storage for your gear, live bait wells, fishboxes
big enough for a smoker king, superbly designed helms, and surprisingly spacious cabins,
and you’ve got an absolutely unbeatable team of superior offshore fishing boats that are
as easy to handle at 60 MPH on the highway as they are in six foot seas.
With an investment of over 20 years of rigorous research, unforgiving testing and
continuous refinement, Albemarle has succeeded in perfecting a power system that is
recognized by both hardcore fishermen and sophisticated boaters as the world’s most
efficient propulsion system. Developed in partnership with Volvo Penta, one of the most
trusted names in marine power systems, our Jackshaft Power System (JPS) delivers a
number of unique advantages that make it the clear choice for serious offshore anglers.
Superior Performance
Excellent Fishability
A Long, Low Maintenance Life
The JPS moves the engines forward in the hull, lowering the
boat’s center of gravity and placing its center of buoyancy
where it logically belongs – in the center of the boat – giving
a significantly more stable and solid ride in rough seas (unlike
outboards with several hundred, and in some cases more than a
thousand pounds of engines hanging on the back of the boat).
Duo-prop counter-rotating propellers put 60-70% more
propeller surface in the water, virtually eliminating cavitation
and vastly improving handling and maneuverability in both
forward and reverse by eliminating torque steer.
Counter-rotating props also help deliver up to 15% more thrust,
20% better acceleration, and up to 15% better fuel economy.
Unlike the downward angle of a traditional inboard shaft,
the sterndrive’s prop shaft is parallel to the water so that it
smoothly and efficiently converts engine power into straight-line
forward thrust.
When you have hooked the catch of a lifetime, the last thing
you need to worry about is trying to fish “around the engines.”
Like the cockpits of larger sportfishing boats, the JPS configuration
allows for the ultimate in a clean fish-fighting platform – free of
obstructions that stand between you and the fish.
The unobstructed transom also affords a substantial fishbox
within easy reach.
With the heavier Carolina hull of an Albemarle, the improved
weight distribution of the JPS delivers a stable trolling ride and
clean wake, excellent for bait presentation.
The lower center of gravity created by the JPS, combined with
the counter-rotating props, also translates into unmatched
reverse steering power, control and maneuverability when
backing down on fast moving fish.
In comparison to a traditional inboard, the JPS delivers a
significantly increased ability to fish and navigate shallow water.
Due in large part to its power being derived from a highly
dependable V8 engine, the sterndrive offers superior
performance and less maintenance than an outboard engine.
The big-block engine generates horsepower at a much lower
RPM than do outboards, decreasing wear and tear and
considerably increasing its life expectancy.
On our 242CC, 268XF and 280XF, the JPS is available with
diesel engines, a power system long known for longevity
and efficiency.
Getting to the engines for routine maintenance and fluid checks
is made simple through large hatches with gas struts. Each opens
effortlessly to allow unimpeded access all around the insulationlined
engine compartment.
Once an issue, the concern about outdrive corrosion is a thing
of the past. Through the use of specially developed alloys,
multi-step painting processes, ceramic coatings, and advanced
fresh water flushing systems, these outdrives are incredibly
well built and carry impressive corrosion warranties from
the manufacturers.
Designed to create the perfect marriage of elegant comfort with hardcore fishing ability,
the Albemarle offshore line continues to be the craft that all other mid-range offshore
boats are measured against by being built to meet one test - exceeding every expectation
of the serious sportfishing angler. Born from the traditional design of the renowned
Carolina hull, Albemarles are among the most respected sportfishing boats found in
marinas worldwide. Known for the indestructible strength of their construction and
legendary for their seaworthiness and comfortable ride, these boats have the ability to fish
side-by-side with vessels almost twice their size – and beat them.
Though they are built to fish in every regard, no other boat in their class can boast the
level of craftsmanship, dependability or fit and finish that each Albemarle represents.
Every component is of the absolute highest quality. Wiring, fiberglass, custom cabinetry,
upholstery, metalwork, helm design, engine access… examine each closely and you
will quickly appreciate the level of thought and genuine care that goes into each one of
the boats we build.
It is also refreshing to discover what many other manufacturers call options or upgrades
are part of Albemarle’s standard equipment list. And, when you do choose to add an
optional feature, it includes the entire package. For example, our tower packages come
complete with spreader lights, side and top rocket launchers, a fiberglass sunshade, and a
full zip down weather enclosure. Whether you are looking for a day boat to entertain
family and friends, a serious offshore boat for overnight swordfish expeditions,
or a true luxury sportfishing yacht to cruise the islands, the Albemarle is a lot of boat
with plenty of quality hardware, systems engineering and a solid Carolina ride.
From Oregon Inlet to Isla Mujeres, from Cape Cod to St. Thomas, you’re sure to see
an Albemarle somewhere on the edge.
Built to Fish in Comfort and style
Offshore Boats
Standing in the cockpit, it is obvious to any serious angler that Albemarle boats were
built to fish. From the ingenious design of the rod storage and tackle stations, to
the rocket launchers, fishboxes, livewells, and tuna doors… not a single detail
has been overlooked. From a day trip to drop for grouper, to a month in the
islands hunting a grander, these boats deliver exactly what you need to put
fish in the boat.
Walk to the helm, and you will appreciate a dash that puts all of your
electronics and gauges in easy view for comfortable cruising or so that you
can focus your full attention on running the boat when things get a little
rough. All the seats, hardware, and components are the finest available
in the industry such a Pompanette Chairs and Lee Outriggers. There is
also plenty of room for your crew and guests to relax in comfort on a
long run out.
Go below decks and you will be astonished at the quality of the
workmanship and obvious attention to detail. All of our cabinetry and
trim is handmade on site by highly skilled carpenters, and only from the
finest teak and cherry woods available. Every drawer, door and handle is
fitted perfectly.
The custom decorated interiors of our salons and staterooms are stylish
and contemporary with a variety of luxury options such as ultra leather
sofas. And again, to guarantee the highest quality, all of our upholstery is
handmade in our factory specifically for each boat as it is completed.
In our efficiently designed galleys you will find such standards as Corian ®
countertops and molded sinks, Subzero ® refrigerators, and convection microwaves.
For entertaining family and guests you can choose a flat panel TV with DVD and
state of the art sound system.
“Overall, I have to say this represents the best-running
hull that Albemarle has ever built, even better than the
41 Express – and that’s really saying something!”
– Dean Travis Clarke, Sport Fishing Magazine
“The seaworthiness of that deep-V, combined with
the rugged construction, means the 410C can handle
most anything you would likely encounter offshore.”
A r e c o r d o f p e r f o r m a n c e
Weekend fishing with friends and family is great, but nothing tests the durability of a boat like the rigors
of serious tournament fishing. With money, glory or just bragging rights on the line, you need a boat
that will perform regardless of conditions or competition.
Built by fishermen for fishermen every one of our boats is uniquely designed to ride and feel like a much
larger vessel. The Carolina flair of our hand-laid hulls let you run far offshore through even the roughest
seas in comfort. Oversized cockpits, lots of storage, huge fishboxes and convenient tackle centers mean
you can fish rigger-to-rigger against fifty to sixty-footers with confidence.
For nearly 30 years we’ve built some of the strongest, safest and smoothest riding boats in the world.
Along the way we have also attracted a growing family of owners who feel that Albemarles are simply
the best fishing boats on the water and have the tournament wins to prove it.
410C and 410XF owner, Dennis Meinhart, shows how it is done at the Mid-Atlantic
$500,000. After holding 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the tuna division for most of the tournament,
Dennis and the “Sea Wolf” crew took home $255,294 for their 184 lb yellowfin.
Paul Menzi and his crew
won an impressive
$235,000 pot for
catching a 135.5 lb bluefin
aboard the “Two Sons”,
an Albemarle 320, in the
