Undergraduate Program
Research Experience
Within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences we
offer several options to undergraduates. The PNB
curriculum exposes students to physiological processes
at all levels: from the interactions of individual
molecules to the behavior of the whole animal.
The most comprehensive program is the Bachelor
of Sciences in Physiology and Neurobiology.
This degree provides extensive training in Physiology
and Neurobiology in conjunction with a solid
foundation of basic sciences and the liberal arts.
Undergraduates electing to major in other fields
may concentrate on courses offered by the department
and obtain a Minor in Physiology and Neurobiology.
Our department also participates in the
interdepartmental Minor in Neuroscience. Biology
majors may also fulfill many of their course requirements
through the department of Physiology and
Neurobiology.
The Physiology and Neurobiology department is
committed to broadening the scope of undergraduate
education by adding exposure to, and involvement
in, state-of-the-art research to traditional
classroom and laboratory training. We encourage
undergraduates to become active participants in
projects being carried out in faculty research laboratories.
Independent research projects under the
supervision of faculty mentors teach many skills
and provide increased competitiveness for postgraduate
education and employment.
Projects often culminate in publications in professional
journals as well as presentations at national
and international meetings.
