Foreign Delegation at NIST A Foreign Delegation comprising of high ranked dignitaries from the Republic of Uganda, East Africa visited the NIST campus. The Special Advisor to the President of Uganda on IT, the Member of Parliament of Republic of Uganda, the Managing Director of Advance Technologies (a $70million IT company) & Mr. Pradeep Verma, MD, Knowledge Online, India had a formal interaction with the faculty members of the institute along with the Director, Prof. Mudali & the Dean, Dr. Panda, with respect to a collaboration on the opening of Jinja Institute of Technology, a premiere Post Graduate and Professional Education Institute at Republic of Uganda. On-line Learning Centre NIST has installed the ‘Online Learning Center’ compiling the study materials prepared by in-house faculty members and external resource persons. After IIT-KGP in the entire Eastern India this is the first of its kind in any colleges of the state. The course materials of the leading institutes of the world are now available at the click of a button for all students and faculty of the Institute. The materials are of extremely high quality and consist of both web based lectures and video lectures. This portal was inaugurated by esteemed Director, Prof. Sangram Mudali along with Dr. Ajit Kumar Panda, Dean; faculty & staff and some students. This facility has been successfully possible due to the sincere and unflinching efforts of the NIST Technological Consulting Services (NTCS) team. On-Line Examination at NIST Wi-Fi NIST conducted its On-Line Examination for the first time through their Wi-Fi connections which enabled the students to appear the exam through their laptops. The entire campus is now Wi-Fi and students could access Internet anywhere in the institute premises. BEC Training Centre at NIST It’s a matter of pride that NIST has been selected as the Training Centre of BUSINESS ENGLISH CERTI- FICATION (BEC), an initiative of BPUT in association with University of Cambridge, for the students of entire southern Orissa’s Engineering, Pharmacy & Management Institutes. Mr. Amrut Phalguni Mohanty & Mr. Dipti Ranjan Lenka, Faculty, NIST have been appointed as the official facilitator/trainer for the training program. In its first venture a batch of 29 students from NIST, Roland Institute of Technology, Berhampur and Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Berhampur, were trained and all of them successfully cleared the certification. Employment Oriented Program The fourth batch of Employment Oriented Program (EOP), an initiative of NIST Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), commenced on 9th February 2009. A total of 43 students in five different disciplines, DTP, Basic Computer Skills, Electronics Repair & Maintenance Skills, Computer Maintenance and Mechanical Workshop Practices. Meeting the fundamental objective of serving the weaker sections, having the potential, this time the group has a mix of students from across the south Orissa even from very far off places like Nowrangpur and Malkangiri. All students are awarded a monthly scholarship of Rs. 1000.00 alongwith books, study materials, placement opportunities, etc. The EOP team is hopeful that this batch will be the trendsetter for future batches. Research Technologies in Electrical Engineering • J2EE and Rational Rose • Spoken Japanese Language Course • Business Process Integration using SAP • Microsoft.NET Frame-work 2.0 AICTE Emeritus Professors join NIST Emeritus Professors, Prof. Sankar Prasad Pati, a renowned teacher and researcher and former Professor of Sambalpur University in the area of Semiconductors and Prof. Jagabandhu Majhi, a reputed researcher in the area of VLSI Design and former Professor of IIT, Madras have been appointed by the AICTE to work with NIST for a period of two years. Both the Emeritus Professors will work with NIST faculty and students to enhance the level of research conducted in the Institute to match with the International standard. This is the first such honor to any engineering Institute of Orissa. M. Tech. program in Computer Science & Engineering at NIST NIST got the approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi to run the M. Tech. program in Computer Science & Engineering with 18 seats from the academic session 2008- 09.Students have already been enrolled under this program through the PGAT conducted by the BPUT. Japanese Language Proficiency Test-07 The Institute offers an extensive course in one of the most sought after foriegn language studies, Japanese Language, and in this venture six of our students got internationally acclaimed by clearing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test ‘07. 7th Anniversary celebration of NIST e_news NIST e_news, the monthly news bulletin of the institute celebrated its 7th Anniversary in the college premises. The Central Sahitya Academy Awardee, Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mohanty, Former Principal, Ravenshaw (Autonomous) College, adorned the occasion being the Chief Guest along with Mr. Chandrashekhar Raopatnaik, Asst. General Manager, The Sambad, Berhampur. as the Guest of Honor. The entire program was coordinated by Mr. Dipti Ranjan Lenka and Mr. Amrut Phalguni Mohanty, Editors, NIST e_news.
