North Carolina Agricultural and
Technical State University is a public, comprehensive,
land-grant and “high research activity” university committed to fulfilling
its fundamental purposes through exemplary undergraduate and graduate instruction,
scholarly and creative research, and effective public service.
The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.
Since its inception as a land-grant university in 1891, North Carolina A&T has had a
rich tradition of leadership and achievement. Those qualities are still evident today.
n Post-Harvest Technologies
The School of Agriculture and
Environmental Sciences was a major
partner in the creation of the North
Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis,
North Carolina, with the development
of a Center of Excellence for Post-
Harvest Technologies, and co-hosted an
international conference on post-harvest
technologies for fruits and vegetables,
metabolomics and neutrigenomics.
n Spin-off Company
The School of Agriculture and
Environmental Sciences created North
Carolina A&T State University’s first spinoff
company, Provagen, which will target
the multibillion dollar market for “antibody
binding proteins.”
n Climate Control
The College of Arts and Sciences received
a $12.5 million grant from the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) to fund an Interdisciplinary
Scientific Environmental Technology
(ISET) Cooperative Research and Education
Center on the campus. The ISET Center
will cooperate with NOAA’s Earth Science
Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colo.,
and is aligned with NOAA’s mission to
provide the data needed to address specific
climate and weather related concerns, such
as hurricanes, droughts, tornadoes, global
warming, and ecosystem degradation.
ISET Center will provide opportunities
for underrepresented students to study
in NOAA related sciences. The seven
partnering institutions are University
of Alaska Southeast, California State
University-Fresno, The City College of
the City University of New York, Fisk
University, University of North Carolina at
Pembroke, North Carolina State University
and University of Minnesota.
n Good “Grades”
The School of Business and Economics
successfully completed an accreditation
review in business and accounting,
and earned the initial accreditation for
the Master of Science in Management
program. The B-School was commended
for establishing effective mission-based
objectives relative to key learning goals and
for continuous learning assurance processes
embedded in the curriculum. As required
by AACSB standards, all accredited
schools must go through a peer review
every five years in order to maintain their
accreditation.
The School of Education successfully
passed all standards of NCATE, which
means there were no recommendations.
