<strong>North</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> Agricultural and<br />
Technical <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> is a public, comprehensive,<br />
land-grant and “high research activity” university committed to fulfilling<br />
its fundamental purposes through exemplary undergraduate and graduate instruction,<br />
scholarly and creative research, and effective public service.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association<br />
of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.<br />
Since its inception as a land-grant university in 1891, <strong>North</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> A&T has had a<br />
rich tradition of leadership and achievement. Those qualities are still evident today.<br />
n Post-Harvest Technologies<br />
The School of Agriculture and<br />
Environmental Sciences was a major<br />
partner in the creation of the <strong>North</strong><br />
<strong>Carolina</strong> Research Campus in Kannapolis,<br />
<strong>North</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong>, with the development<br />
of a Center of Excellence for Post-<br />
Harvest Technologies, and co-hosted an<br />
international conference on post-harvest<br />
technologies for fruits and vegetables,<br />
metabolomics and neutrigenomics.<br />
n Spin-off Company<br />
The School of Agriculture and<br />
Environmental Sciences created <strong>North</strong><br />
<strong>Carolina</strong> A&T <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s first spinoff<br />
company, Provagen, which will target<br />
the multibillion dollar market for “antibody<br />
binding proteins.”<br />
n Climate Control<br />
The College of Arts and Sciences received<br />
a $12.5 million grant from the National<br />
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration<br />
(NOAA) to fund an Interdisciplinary<br />
Scientific Environmental Technology<br />
(ISET) Cooperative Research and Education<br />
Center on the campus. The ISET Center<br />
will cooperate with NOAA’s Earth Science<br />
Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colo.,<br />
and is aligned with NOAA’s mission to<br />
provide the data needed to address specific<br />
climate and weather related concerns, such<br />
as hurricanes, droughts, tornadoes, global<br />
warming, and ecosystem degradation.<br />
ISET Center will provide opportunities<br />
for underrepresented students to study<br />
in NOAA related sciences. The seven<br />
partnering institutions are <strong>University</strong><br />
of Alaska Southeast, California <strong>State</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>-Fresno, The City College of<br />
the City <strong>University</strong> of New York, Fisk<br />
<strong>University</strong>, <strong>University</strong> of <strong>North</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> at<br />
Pembroke, <strong>North</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
and <strong>University</strong> of Minnesota.<br />
n Good “Grades”<br />
The School of Business and Economics<br />
successfully completed an accreditation<br />
review in business and accounting,<br />
and earned the initial accreditation for<br />
the Master of Science in Management<br />
program. The B-School was commended<br />
for establishing effective mission-based<br />
objectives relative to key learning goals and<br />
for continuous learning assurance processes<br />
embedded in the curriculum. As required<br />
by AACSB standards, all accredited<br />
schools must go through a peer review<br />
every five years in order to maintain their<br />
accreditation.<br />
The School of Education successfully<br />
passed all standards of NCATE, which<br />
means there were no recommendations.<br />
