advocate, coordinate and implement policies that will help U.S. manufacturers compete
globally. Join the afternoon General Session where you will participate in a Town Hall
Meeting with Frink during which individuals can communicate their concerns and needs
and explore what solutions the Department of Commerce is working to provide.
The North American Automotive Battleground:
Winning Strategies for Suppliers
Glenn Mercer, of McKinsey & Company, will lead a talk on the overall state of the
automotive industry, which he sees as in a time of paradox. Overall market volume growth
is weak, but market revenue growth is strong.Transaction prices are climbing with discounts
and rebates at all time highs. Some manufacturers see immense profit pressures while
others are making money at record levels. Suppliers have reached levels of scale and
responsibility, yet many still remain profitless or near bankruptcy.
Mercer’s talk will clarify these paradoxes and analyze the overall situation (rather than
providing specific market forecasts) so that attendees should leave being better informed
regarding resource allocation decisions.
4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Innovative Thinking: High Performance Teams
Jonathan Vehar, of New & Improved, will lead a discussion on innovation and how
to develop High Performance Teams within your company. Vehar will focus on the fundamental
barriers to innovation and provide techniques for breaking through them with the
science of creative thinking. He will show that when companies harness the power of
both creative thinking and innovation, breakthrough results will occur.
During this session, you will learn tools and techniques to: create growth, turn out
more options, generate a wider range of alternatives, evaluate and build on new ideas,
improve your ability to work with others and generate breakthrough solutions.
Economic Outlook & Issues
8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
An Economic Outlook for the Industry
Robert Fry, Senior Associate Economist, Dupont
Performance Polymers will present an outlook for the global
economy, emphasizing how factors such as GDP, industrial
production, motor vehicle sales and production, inflation and
interest rates impact the U.S. rubber industry. Attendees
responsible for strategic analysis and the management of
performance targets will learn how resilient the U.S. economy
has been in recent years, and its impact on business
strategy planning.
9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
Doing Business in China
Steve Nieto, VP of Specialty Products and Global
Sourcing, Excel Polymers L.L.C., will provide an overview to
those interested in the growth opportunity in the Chinese
rubber industry through joint ventures, WFOEs, licensing,
sourcing and selling. Additionally, he will explore the related
risks including intellectual property, duty/tax, and regional
diversity issues while highlighting the legal, commercial and
governmental resources that are available to help manage
such risks.
9:45 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.
The America Experience
Shaun Xu, Lianda Corporation, will speak on the opposite
end of the spectrum: the intricacies of bringing a foreign
company into the American business arena. This provides a
unique look at what it is like to do business in America as a
foreign-owned company and offers insight into working with
such businesses as an American company.
10:15 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Break
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Challenges & Opportunities Facing the Automotive
Industry from the Supplier’s Perspective
Neil DeKoker, President, Original Equipment Suppliers
Association (OESA), will discuss the many challenges and
opportunities for suppliers to the automotive industry,
including international sourcing, rising raw material costs, and
customers continuing to impose requirements and pricing
concessions on suppliers. Attendees will gain an understanding
of these challenges, as well as the common characteristics
of suppliers that not only survive but thrive in this environment
of continuous change.
11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Counterfeiting in the Rubber Industry:
Scope, Causes & Cures
Thomas Moga, Senior Attorney, Butzel Long PC, will
explore what types of products are commonly counterfeited,
their sources, marketing strategies and the liability risks
created to your company. He will discuss the economic and
business factors that lead to counterfeiting and provide guidance
on how business managers/counsel can more easily
recognize and mitigate such risks with a well-established
intellectual property portfolio.
11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Lunch (on your own)
Technology Sciences Group Inc., will discuss current TSCA
regulations and exclusions for manufacturers and
importers and review the options available when commercializing
a new chemical under these standards.
Attendees will learn the differences in procedures for new
versus existing chemicals under TSCA. Jordenais will also
discuss the PMN process and available exemptions that
are involved in bringing such new chemicals to market.
1:45 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Learning
about a new
product is one
thing. Witnessing
dramatic results from it is
quite another. QDI is something
more than new. It's dramatically better.
Consider the opportunity to eliminate 1-2 passes
in a multi-pass operation. Mix NR compounds up to 25% faster.
Achieve better viscosity reduction than controlled compounds,
and compounds mixed with peptizers. Reduce heat build up by
5-10%. Reduce mixing costs up to 25%.
We're going to change the way you look
at traditional mixing. Call Dr. Fred
(330-668-8346) and challenge us to
prove QDI in your mixing application.
Mix faster, smarter, better. With QDI.
