Seajacks has placed an order with Lamprell
for the construction of a new self-propelled
jack-up vessel, specifically designed for
installation and maintenance services in the
offshore wind and oil and gas sectors.
Named Seajacks Hydra, the new
Seajacks vessel will be a £77m modified
Gusto MSC NG2500X self-elevating and
self-propelled jack-up. The vessel will be
equipped with dynamic positioning, high
speed jacking system and a 400t crane.
The vessel will be constructed at Lamprell’s
Hamriyah facility in the United Arab Emirates
and will be delivered in 2014.
Blair Ainslie, chief executive of the
Seajacks Group, said: “She will be Seajacks’
fourth vessel and a similar design to Kraken
and Leviathan. Hydra will be an excellent
“ SHE WILL BE SEAJACKS’ FOURTH
VESSEL AND A SIMILAR DESIGN
TO KRAKEN AND LEVIATHAN.
HYDRA WILL BE AN EXCELLENT
AddITION TO THE STATE-OF
THE-ART FLEET THAT WE ARE
BUILDING HERE AT SEAJACKS. ”
addition to the state-of the-art fleet that we
are building here at Seajacks.”
Seajacks Kraken is currently undertaking
a two year well intervention and maintenance
campaign for Shell UK and NAM
in the Southern North Sea, while Seajacks
Leviathan continues to perform effectively
in the offshore wind sector, having recently
completed turbine installation at Sheringham
Shoal Wind Farm. She is now working on the
Meerwind Wind Park project off Germany
with new sister ship Zaratan, following its
voyage from Lamprell in Dubai.
In March 2012, Marubeni Corporation
and the Innovation Network of Japan (INCJ),
announced the acquisition of Seajacks from
Riverstone Holdings.
Fees plan for
Employment
Tribunal
The government has confirmed that a twostage
fee structure for individuals issuing
claims in the Employment Tribunal will be
introduced in summer 2013.
The amount of the fee will be dependent
on the complexity of the claim and as
well as an initial fee payable when the claim
is issued, individuals will also have to pay
a separate fee approximately 4-6 weeks
before the final hearing.
As an example, an individual who
wishes to bring an unfair dismissal claim will
have to pay £250 when he/she submits the
claim, and a further £950 as a hearing fee.
The intention behind the introduction of
these fees was to pass some of the costs
of the Employment Tribunal system from
the taxpayer to the user. The government
is also hopeful that it will encourage early
settlement of claims.
The introduction of fees will come as a
welcome relief to employers who are hopeful
that the reform will go some way to deterring
ill-founded or unmeritorious claims.
That said, employers should be aware that
individuals on benefits or low incomes may
be exempt from paying the fee or may be
eligible to pay a reduced fee.
In addition, there are fees payable
by employers as well, including when an
employer wishes to issue a counter claim
and where an employer wishes to enter into
judicial mediation.
