POSITION: Design Assurance Engineer (Reliability Engineer III)<br />
REPORTS TO: Director, Product Development Engineering (Director, Design Engineering)<br />
DEPARTMENT: 2840<br />
JOB FAMILY: Design Engineering<br />
PAYROLL STATUS: Exempt (P) JOB CODE: 5043<br />
OBJECTIVE: Responsible for understanding and executing the following functions under the design<br />
assurance discipline for the BEI development engineering group: reliability engineering, compliance<br />
engineering and regulatory affairs.<br />
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:<br />
• Must have a 4-year technical/engineering degree preferably in electrical engineering or related<br />
studies.<br />
• Must have 8+ years experience in the electronics manufacturing industry.<br />
• Must be familiar with regulatory bodies such as the FDA, agency certifications such as EMC,<br />
reliability engineering concepts.<br />
• Must have intermediate knowledge of desktop publishing and spreadsheet applications.<br />
• Must have experience in six-sigma concepts; green belt certified preferred<br />
• Certified Reliability Engineer accreditations preferred.<br />
SKILLS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<br />
• Will demonstrate engineering level understanding of electronic components, circuits and systems.<br />

compliance, regulatory and reliability testing project plans<br />
• Will demonstrate the ability to work within the engineering services project teams.<br />
• Will demonstrate regular, consistent attendance, and will support an all shift production environment<br />
• Will be able to travel up to 10% - 20% of the time to include day and/or overnight travel<br />
• Will be able to perform sedentary work involving the use of a keyboard and mouse for six hours per day<br />

RESPONSIBILITIES:<br />

Reliability Engineering<br />
• Coordinates effective reliability analysis and prediction for customer products within the BEI design<br />
team<br />
• Develops, leads and conducts reliability testing solutions and develops associated processes for<br />
customer products, using standard methods and equipment or wholly custom developments to provide<br />
solutions that meet both the customers’ requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support<br />
groups’ requirements<br />
• Develops product reliability prediction processes using tools such as FMEA, Weibull, etc., and performs<br />
these predictions on customer products.<br />
• Performs HALT’s on customer products and maintains necessary documentation.<br />
• Develops summary reports and presents reports to customer showing results of life time or stress testing<br />
• Performs reliability analysis and testing and creates necessary documentation<br />
• Communicates with customer technical personnel regarding reliability issues<br />
Compliance Engineering<br />
• Focuses on planning for an effective agency certification function within the BEI design team, and<br />
the execution of agency certification for customer products.<br />
• Develops testing methods and documentation and conducts reviews to meet agency requirements for<br />
customer products.<br />
• Develops relationships with third party testing services along with technical services agreements.<br />
• Performs agency compliance analysis and testing and creates necessary documentation<br />
Regulatory Affairs<br />
• Focuses on planning for an effective regulatory affairs function within the BEI design team, and the<br />
execution of product and project documentation development and reviews to meet regulatory and<br />
agency requirements.<br />
• Develops testing methods and documentation and conducts reviews to meet regulatory requirements<br />
for customer products and projects.<br />
• Develops new and enhances existing processes to meet FDA, TL and other regulatory body<br />
requirements.<br />
Other<br />
• Contacts and works with equipment vendors<br />
• Develops and follows project plan and reports project status to leadership<br />
• Provides project level leadership and organization as required for multiple concurrent projects<br />
• Develops project proposals and associated cost estimates<br />
• Communicates technical challenges and implements solutions<br />
• Drives strategy development discussions on Benchmark customer team(s)<br />
• Works with customers to understand customer requirements.<br />
• Works with Benchmark manufacturing support groups to understand the requirements of the<br />
production environment<br />
• Develops an understanding of Design for Testability and Manufacturability and Reliability and promotes<br />
with customers.<br />
• Works with hardware, software, test development, MCAD, ECAD, SDE and Business Unit Teams to<br />
effectively transition solutions to production<br />
• Provides project leadership, mentoring, and training for engineers<br />
• Develops and deploys processes and systems within the workgroup<br />
• Participates in identification and development of advanced technologies<br />
• Provides research and development for new methods of testing and prediction.<br />

• Develops RF technology plans for the Winona <strong>Division</strong>’s design and test groups.<br />
• Manages projects and resources as needed for sustaining product support and project management needs<br />
