Greetings from the Royal Scribe
Have you ever thought you might like to try illumination Calligraphy
Charter and Scroll design Well, one of the best ways to get
started it to learn to paint Kingdom and Baronial Charters.
A Charter is an award document given by the Crown for achievement
in a variety of areas. Arts, Service, Combat, to name a few.
Charters are usually printed on heavy “parchment” paper by mechanical
means and then hand painted by an artist. Learning the
techniques used in charter painting can be not only educational but
fun. It is also a great way to make a contribution to your Kingdom.
Another thing that painting charters can lead to is the creation of
original Scrolls. Scrolls are also given for achievement in a variety
of areas though perhaps most notably for peerages.
If you are interested in learning the basics, I encourage you to contact
the Baronial Scribe Randal FitzAlan leahrandal@msn.comand
visit a paint night. There you can be introduced to
others of similar interests as well as be given the opportunity to give
charter painting a try. Both Kingdom and Baronial Charters are
available there. If you are unable to visit Paint Night, you may contact
me hlutwige@gmail.com 503-282-8274 and I will work with
you to arrange a time and place for you to do some painting. Please
share this information with friends and family who may also be interested
in contributing.
Lets have an adventure! I look forward to hearing from you.
send in a report. So, here it is, better late than never. I managed to sell 1 bumper Sticker at Yule Feast, so whatever the numbers I had of them
before, there is now 1 less. In a little bit later service, Meri of the Bears with many apologies
Seneschal of KaldorNess: Jacinda present, written report. Greetings unto their Excellencies, Council and Guests: I apologize for
not being able to attend tonight's meeting as we are busy finalizing details before the birth of our newest cantonee. :) Please accept
the report in my absence. Our regular monthly business meeting and quarterly social was held at Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant in
Seneschal Hauksgaard: Kerrick present, written report. Well met one and all! December's meeting for the Canton was held Dec 1st at
Beginning Pewter Casting, taught by HL Valdemeare en Austrivik. Three Mountains Yule was a great time. For the first time in 26 years
in the SCA, I walked out of a potluck feast and had to loosen my belt to drive home! Thank you Selene and your Team! Fighter practice
on the 10thh was pre-empted by Summits Winter Investiture. Pure Awesomeness! All of our active fighters went had a great time. Our
We have $ 12,759.39 in our chequing account, and 9,156.05 in our savings account, for a total of
Sport of Kings – As far as I know, I now have all the receipts from Sport of Kings. During Money talks I need to ask the Council for approval of two
amounts where SoK went over budget: $460.22 for the Virgin Countess and $39.72 for Angela and the Revel on the Eric. So SoK can close next
month.
The books on Honor Feast and Yule should close tonight, unless there is some last minute brouhaha about which I am unaware.
And I found a Wells Fargo guy who was actually helpful in telling me how we can get Kingdom Exchequer onto our account with a minimum of fuss
and bother.
That’s it. In service, -Malcolm
Herald: Constance present, written report. Unto Their Excellencies Three Mountains and the populations does Constance Mountains send greetings.
Here do I send my first report as herald of this Barony. Stuff is still being handed over, but I believe I have most of the items for the office.
Zach has fabric for new tabard(s) and probably also a baldric or two. I have a pattern at home for the main shape the tabard, although it may
need to be tweaked. They will only need the Barony's arms on them. If you would like to take on at least one of these items, please let me know.
No deadline, but would love to wear a new tabard at least once before I step down. I would like it sooner then later as the tabards we have are very
long and very hot. I would like to get some deputes. Zack has already said that he would like to be my contingency deputy. I would love a book
depute and a court reporter. If you would just like to learn more about any area of heraldry, let me know. I would love to have a list of people who
would like to help out with court, consult tables, field and town cry. Court reports have been sent for Honor Feast and Yule.
Scribe: Randal absent, written report. Randal FitzAlan to their excellencies and council greetings, I regret being unable to attend due
to a migraine, my apologies. Scrolls were created for Yule feast by Mistress Arlys O’ Gordon, Mistress Leah bat Yehiel, Ursel Lindenhym,
and first time scribes Rusadan, and Beak Bell of Dumfries. Many thanks for the great work. Paint night will be on hiatus until the
week after Christmas and will then continue every Tuesday night except council night from 6pm to about 9pm. We will continue with this
time and day until demand dictates a change. Have a happy holiday season. In Service Randal FitzAlan the Redowtable
Chatelaine: Havoise present, written report. Greetings unto Their Excellencies, the Officers, and the populace. There were six contacts during
the past month, including a drop-in visitor at Honor Feast, a returnee to An Tir, a visitor from Hermiston at Yule Feast (occasionally plays with
Waste Keep), and an experienced SCAdian who recently moved here from Caid. That is all. In service, Havoise de Rohan
Gold Key: Alexandria present, written report. Greetings Council and all: YULE: DEC 3: Gold Key was at Yule. Only 1 item was borrowed
and it was returned. Someone tried to contact me the day of the event for gold key. The message was left on my home phone at
1:30 pm but of course, I was at the event for several hours already and so did not receive the message until I returned home at 10 pm
Baronial Council Meeting Minutes December2011 Page 11
that evening. The person did not leave a return number nor a name though they did say they were new, so I am uncertain if that person
was the same who borrowed gold key. If not, then I am sorry for the mix up and hope you managed to come anyway.
ACCADEMIA: FEB18-19: I have no plans to set gold key up at the Embellishers Accademia in February due to time and space constraints,
so if you need gold key for that event or know someone who does, PLEASE contact me ahead of time (at least a few days if
possible) and I will see about bringing an item or two as needed.
FUTURE EVENTS: None I have not been contacted for any gold key needs before April.
OFFICE OPENS IN APRIL 2012: I will be stepping down as gold key officer in April 2012 after having the office for 4 years. Please consider
stepping up for this minor office if you can. It is streamlined, clean, repaired, and ready to stay in the storage unit until
needed. Most events need only 1-2 tubs of garb at most so you will never have to lug more than that to any 1-2 day event and you may
also opt to bring only a minimal set of tabards /tunics and belts to events and have folks contact you ahead of time instead to get outfitted.
And most years, there are only 3-5 events all year that are baronial and require gold key at all. I have enjoyed the position and have
gotten to meet and costume many folks both new and more seasoned. Please contact me if you would like more information. Alexandria
Chronicler: Hlutwige present, written report. Greetings one and all. The December issue of The PLUME was posted to the web site on December
2 nd . I had 20 copies of The PLUME available at Yule Feast (thanks to Selene for getting the printing done) unfortunately the remainder have been
placed in the storage facility. I have a submitted the cost receipt to the Exchequer. I also have copies of the directory available for $2 each which
may be paid to the Exchequer directly. I would like to have some feed back regarding the hard copy of The PLUME and if and when I should think
of doing another. May your holiday season be filled with fun.
Knight Marshal: Felix present, written report. To Their most august and dread Excellencies, Populace and Council, As the Yule season dances to
its twinkling conclusion, know you far and wide that the soldiers and warriors gifted with your trust and security have not stood idle. Through feast
and festival, tourney frigid and extremities azure, they stand ready to war at slightest word and whim. Hearty and hale, practiced and prepared.
They and I have nothing further to report. Yours In Service Verbosus, Felix Avore
Rapier: Talbot present, verbal report. Practice continues at the regular time and place.
List: Rusudan absent, written report. Unto Their Excellencies Three Mountains and Noble Populace, I do give greeting. As you know,
the bonding between two clans is a very important process. My handsome, gifted, and intelligent son has informed us that there is a
young woman of another clan that he deems worthy of his attention, and has arranged for us to meet with her this evening. IF she is suitable,
we will continue to allow their dalliance for the time being while we learn more of her clan, whatever black sheep may be hidden in
its folds, etc. Please forgive my absence at this evening's council, and on to the Lists report: There was fiercely contested, two contestant
heavy tourney at our Yule Feast, with Sir Ataias emerging the victor. The Rapier tourney was much more populated, with Monsignor
Chrestien de Valois emerging the victor. YIS, Rusudan, Listmistress Three Mountains
Archer: Ersebet present, written report. Dear All: My term has been up since 9/1/2011. I require a replacement as this office has been
delegated around with no solid leadership. It requires more attention than I can give at this time. Please contact me if interested so I can
let you know what you are getting into. :) Yours in service, HL Vadas Ersebet, OGGS Baronial Archer of 3M
Old Business:
Confirmations of Office applications: (Notes taken by Penelope) A discussion occurred regarding the three candidates for the office of Seneschal.
Malcolm indicated that Attia would be a good choice because she doesn’t currently hold an office in the Barony. Will reminded the group
that there during the next year the Baron and Baroness will be changing. This should be taken in to consideration since change-over can sometimes
be a trial. Helena indicated that she was Seneschal during the last change of Baron and Baroness. The paperwork requirements for the
Seneschal position during the process are not difficult. She indicated that new blood might be good. Two of the candidates have already held
position. Selene also reminded the group that the Barony will be hosting one (possibly two) crown events over the next year and that this should
also be taken to consideration. A question was asked regarding more information about each of the candidates. Aleyn indicated that the information
had been shared at previous meetings. The Baroness gave a brief description of each of the candidates. Ayden indicated that there is no bad
choice and that any of the candidates would do a excellent job. The council agreed. Polling ballots were passed out and then collected. Later in
the meeting it was announced that Felix was chosen. He will take over in January.
Honour Feast/Baronial A&S Champs: 10/1/11 Event Steward Vivian present, consulting Penelope, written report. Unto Their Excellencies, officers
and populace of Three Mountains, Greetings; Our original estimate for attendance of Honor Feast was 102 people and we looked on target
right up until the week before the event when we went from 6 responses on Survey Monkey to 100 in the course of 5 days. So 2 days before the
event we revised the expected attendance to between 150 and 200 people. At my request, the resilient and gracious kitchen staff adjusted their
food buying and cooking plans accordingly. We were $367.19 over the original estimated budget for 102 people - but we did in fact have 187 people,
so in the end, we're up $592 for the event. With these numbers reported, and all matters I’m aware of settled, I would like to close the event.
Yule Feast 12/3/11 Event Steward Selene, consulting Attia, present, written report. Yule was fun! There were friends, food, fighting, dancing and
presents. I want to thank everyone who came to the event, we hope you all enjoyed yourselves. We also want to thank everyone who helped with
the event, especially those whom we missed thanking during the event. The kitchen staff, thank you the feast was delicious! Thanks to everyone
Baronial Council Meeting Minutes December2011 Page 13
who helped out by setting up the feast hall, ballroom and erics. Also a big thank you to everyone who helped clean up, the caretakers of the hall
were impressed with our cleanup job and have returned our deposit to us. Now on to the numbers….Yule was well attended, with 111 people
through the gate. We estimate that we had 125 actually attend as gate closed before court and there were a few who showed up for court and the
feast. The Barony was very generous with their donations – Thank you! We donated 192 pounds of food and $10 went to the Oregon Food Bank,
38 Blankets, Coats and sweaters to the Sunshine Division and 35 toys went to the Portland Fire Bureau Toy Drive. We came in $191.01under
budget for expenses and brought in $438.00 in gate fees. Our NMS to kingdom is $45.00 so our net gate is $393.00 which is $112.00 less than
what we estimated. So in total, Yule cost the Barony $565.99, which is $34.01 less than the accepted bid! I have the lost and found items from
Yule with me tonight and will turn over whatever is left to Duncan. Yours in Service, Selene Trioros
+ backing up the autocrat with generosity…suggest that in the future if the Barony is doing the main meat dish as a contribution, we find a way to
remove meat from the ―main dishes‖ selection…use Tupperware as the site token Felix had the children pick up all the tinsel from the tree…
good job.
