Passion. Nostalgia. Sadness. Fury. But also love and happiness. Most of all - melancholy. Words
that all describe the depth and beauty of the music of Astor Piazzolla. Anu Sistonen has been
deeply inspired by the music of Piazzolla and has tightly entwined all aspects into “LIFE”. It
resembles clearly the rollercoaster of emotions and expresses the feelings of a person living in a
foreign country. Subconsciously longing to the place where she comes from. Why is she here What
did she leave behind What is there to explore Why this eternal longing
In close co-operation with the quintet “Aconcagua” Anu has been able to release her feelings into a
free flow. Relationships, feelings, age, time - life overall - is mirrored through one persons eyes. How
does she see it How does it impact her How does she feel that How does she express that
Why is there this eternal longing The multitude of deep and intensive emotions and contrasts –
passion, love, sadness, fury, tragedy, melancholy. The sudden moves and changes from passionate
desperation and fierceness to overwhelming tenderness. Dance interprets the depth and the beauty
of the music of Astor Piazzolla into a story full of motion and emotion. The connection between the
two is so strong and visible that it can nearly be touched. A true rollercoaster of emotions.
The subject is very close to Anu as Argentina and Luxembourg can be very closely compared to
each other. Both are countries which have attracted lots of immigrants of all levels of the society.
The mix of people, backgrounds, cultures, ways of life – all this together creates simply a unique
atmosphere which can be felt and sensed anywhere and anytime. A subject very personal and close
to heart.

ANU SISTONEN, CHOREOGRAPHER
Anu Marjukka Sistonen is a Finnish dancer, teacher and choreographer who
trained at the Finnish National Ballet School. Upon graduation Anu gained a
contract in the Finnish National Ballet and soon began dancing principal roles,
that included for example Juliet in John Cranko’s version of Romeo and Juliet,
Odette-Odile in Swan Lake and Clara in two different version of The Nutcracker.
She was always more interested in contemporary and modern dance and got a
chance to work with many of the leading choreographers in the world like Mats
Ek, Jiri Kylian, John Neumeier and Ohad Naharin.
In 1986 Anu Sistonen joined The Stuttgart Ballet where she remained for four
years touring extensively and dancing various roles. The company was at that
© Mirka Kleemola time under the direction of the famous prima ballerina Marcia Haydee. In 1990
Anu moved to Stockholm to work with Mats Ek in the Cullberg ballet before
returning to Finland in 1992. During the period 1993-1998 she worked in the
Finnish National Ballet with many leading Finnish choreographers like Jorma Uotinen (director of the
company), Kenneth Kvanström and Tero Saarinen.
In 1998 Anu moved to Paris and then London to enable her to spend more time working with
choreographers outside Finland as well as to develop her teaching and choreographic interests.
During this latest stage in her career she has worked with choreographer Tero Saarinen in his
company Toothpick, taught in London, Germany, Finland, France, Sweden and Luxembourg and
occasionally returned to the Finnish National Ballet as a guest artist. Anu is now principally based in
Luxembourg and had twice her own dance performances in Grand Théâtre de la Ville de
Luxembourg. In 2003 the evening was titled "Northern Spirit" and it included three choreographies of
her: "Out of the Fog" (trio), Shivering (solo) and Unison (duet). The second of her own evening was
"Soirée Contraire" and it included two new creations: "Sibelius-Divertissement" and "La Fantaisie".
On 10th of November, 2006 her creation TIMELINE was premiered in Théâtre d'Esch. It was a
continuation of the cooperation between Anu and Andre Mergenthaler, a famous luxembourgish
cellist. Also premiered in 2006 was Anu’s creation “Truly Yours”, a solo work for dancer Jonna
Aaltonen which was extended and made into a duet in 2008 and renamed “Moving Light”. Anu also
created a new work with the Ballet de Lorraine “Spleen” in 2008 and a new work for Pori Dance
Company “Against the Flow” in 2009.
As an independent production and first cooperation with the Finnish photographer Miikka Heinonen
Anu also created in 2008 “Contaminated”, a co-production with Trois C-L.
In 2010 Anu worked in close cooperation with Aconcagua quintet on "LIFE", based on the music of
Astor Piazzolla. LIFE was premiered in Théâtre d'Esch Luxembourg in May 2010 and has been
performed in the Grand Region of Luxembourg and will be performed also in the Fullmoon Dance
Festival in Pyhäjärvi Finland in July 2010.

Depending on the venue. When the lights are pre hanged and setup, it will take minimum of 6 hours
for focus lights, program the lighting control desk and sound check. Set up time all together with the

1- stage
- 4 music stand (Manhasset or equivalent) with 6 music stand lights.
1 music stand light per musicians and 2 for the pianist.
2 high chairs for the double-bassist and the violinist.
2 chairs for the accordionist and the guitarist.
1 piano stool.
1 stand to put the double bass on.
2 chairs to have amplifier higher.
Kind of piano and tune
The piano have to be an half tail piano from Steinway & Son or Yamaha
or Kawai.
Very important
- The piano will be tune at 442 Mhz and at least 3 hours before the show.
2 – Electricity amplifier and listing of microphones we need
- For our electrical material (amps for double bass and guitar) we need
a tension 220V with earth connector .
The amplifier of the double bassist is : Acoustic Image CODA R III
The amplifier of the guitarist is: AER type compact 60
