<strong>MSD</strong> as Part of the Louisville Metro Team<br />
The city of Louisville and Jefferson County merged governments in January 2003 to become Louisville Metro after many years<br />
of debate. While looking for the best route for merging City and County agencies and services, Metro Mayor Abramson also<br />
looked to local utilities and organizations to join the team.<br />
Under the leadership of Executive Director Bud Schardein, <strong>MSD</strong> enhanced its position in the community by<br />
working as a partner with Metro Mayor Abramson and other Louisville Metro service agencies. Through this<br />
cooperation, <strong>MSD</strong> has provided additional services to the community, including:<br />
• Metro Information, Development and Asset System (MIDAS) – <strong>MSD</strong> partners with Louisville Metro<br />
for the community’s Geographic Information System, information management and imaging systems<br />
for tracking service requests, development review, permitting, code enforcement, asset management and<br />
planning functions.<br />
• MetroCall – The partnership between Louisville Metro and <strong>MSD</strong>’s Customer Relations Department ensures<br />
that the community’s 311 calls are answered “live” during Louisville Metro’s nonbusiness hours. <strong>MSD</strong>’s Customer<br />
Relations staff fielded more than 1,200 calls a week from MetroCall customers during 2008.<br />
• Metro Development Center – Louisville Metro Public Works, the Louisville Metro Planning Commission and <strong>MSD</strong><br />
have partnered to staff a centralized permitting and licensing center at 444 South Fifth Street.<br />
• Snow Removal – <strong>MSD</strong>’s crews assist Louisville Metro<br />
Public Works in plowing and salting approximately<br />
185 miles of major roadways during each snow event<br />
in the Louisville Metro area.<br />
• Neighborhood Cleanup – <strong>MSD</strong>’s crews provide<br />
assistance to local neighborhoods that organize debris<br />
cleanups in their community. <strong>MSD</strong> has furnished<br />
gloves, bags and debris disposal for these efforts.<br />
• Ohio River Levee Trail/Riverwalk – <strong>MSD</strong>’s crews and<br />
contractors help maintain the trail along the Flood<br />
Protection System.<br />
Overall, the merger has been the catalyst for more cohesive<br />
service provisions to Louisville Metro residents through<br />
improved communication and shared assets between<br />
Louisville Metro government and <strong>MSD</strong>.<br />
<strong>MSD</strong> drivers and equipment assist Louisville Metro agencies<br />
in clearing roads of snow and ice.<br />
