Meredith's Message
At our school last Friday we had an incident that resulted in our school going into 'Lockdown'. Our
staff and children practice this procedure throughout the year as part of PBL. Students learn how to
respond to this situation respectfully, responsibly, co-operatively and safely. Our practice has
certainly been rewarded.
I would like to congratulate all the staff and students for following the 'Lockdown' procedure
respectfully, responsibly, cooperatively and safely. The incident was quickly resolved and our school
day went back to normal routine.
Our school uses Facebook to promote activities that are happening at school and to share our great
work. Over the last couple of weeks some of our own students have 'liked' us. I find this concerning,
Facebook requires you to be 13 years of age or older to create an account. I am not sure if parents
are aware of their children accessing Facebook. It is great for our students to see what is on our
Facebook page under your supervision but not as an account holder.
Pre2 were very honoured this week to receive notification from The Hon Warren Snowden MP
(Minister for Veteran’s Affairs) that they had been announced as national winners of the Best
Innovative Event for ANZAC Day 2012.
In acknowledging the award, Mr Snowden praised the project for its “aim of highlighting the
mateship between the soldiers from Australia and New Zealand, that was forged on the shores of
Gallipoli, by uniting students from their Australian school with the students from Pahiatua in New
Zealand.” In addition he made particular reference to the ‘original, creative and innovative approach”
used by pre2 throughout the project.
The award will be presented at Bletchington Public School later this year by Senator Matt
Thistlewaite. Each of the nine pre2 schools will be presented with a plaque and pre2 will receive
$1000 which will be used to develop the plans for our 2013-15 ANZAC Commemorations.
Congratulations must go to Mrs Colleen Alchin who was the driving force to make our combined
Australian /New Zealand ANZAC Day ceremony a reality.

students.

Playgroup News
Last week at playgroup we had fun making
biscuits and doing fun activities with our
friends. With Fathers Day this weekend we
are making a card for that special person in
our life. At Cheeky Monkeys Playgroup on
Friday we also have presents available for a
gold coin donation. Some of the children from
Grasshoppers Playgroup featured in
Monday’s local paper. They were helping with
the community garden. For more information

Important notice for
next years kindergarten
students!
It is very important to ensure that your child
gets the best start to school. Our Small
Steps to Kindergarten Transition Program
has started and is aimed at making the first
day of Kindergarten an enjoyable day rather
than stressful.
If you have a child that may be starting
school in 2013 come and join us on Friday at
1.30 for lunch or by 2.00pm if you have
already had lunch and want to participate in
the afternoon fun and games with this years
Kindergarten students.
Last Friday the parents had some fun
looking at creative lunchbox snack ideas
with Deanne Writer from the Bathurst
Schools Office (Department of Education

Yarn 'n' Darn
Are you interested in art and craft Do you
have a project you are currently working on or
would you like to learn new skills Join in our
craft group on Friday between 11.00am –
12.30pm. Currently we have people working
on Christmas decorations, crocheting and
weaving. We are looking at expanding our
activities to cover landscape painting, card
making and any other art or craft activities
that people might like to share their skills in.

Head Lice
Tips for tackling kids head lice.
- Use hair conditioner and a fine head lice
comb.
- Apply conditioner to the hair and comb
through with a wide-toothed comb to remove
the tangles.
- Then use a fine metal lice comb to remove
the lice and pull the nits off the hair.
- The conditioner helps slow down the louse
and makes it easier to comb out.

1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline for
Children 2-12 is a behaviour management
