Welcome to Overton Grange
Sixth Form
Welcome to our Sixth Form prospectus which introduces you to the wide range of
opportunities available at Overton Grange for our Post 16 students. The Sixth Form at
Overton Grange has its own distinct identity but is also very much a part of the wider
school. Most of our GCSE students opt to stay with us into Year 12 and we welcome
many students from other schools to join our community.
We know that the decision to continue your
education beyond the age of 16 is an important
one and that each of you will have individual
ambitions. Our role is to help support you to
achieve your chosen goals and ultimately we
want each of you to:
• Achieve your true potential
• To be well prepared for life beyond the Sixth
Form, be that at university, work or elsewhere
• To feel apart of our school community by
participating in a wide range of activities
• To become responsible young adults and
positive role models for younger students and
in the wider community
Our impressive facilities and high quality
teaching enables students to excel and our
excellent exam results are a credit to the hard
work of both students and staff. Sixth formers
here are certainly achieving and exceeding all
expectations.
Life in Overton Grange Sixth Form is a really
enriching experience. Universities, colleges and
employers want to see that students have more
than simply academic qualifications and we
go to great lengths to ensure that our Year 12
and 13 students have the opportunity to take
part in experiences that will enhance their own
lives and make them stand out from others.
All students will take part in the exciting CAS
programme which will allow them to take an
active role in developing leadership skills and
ensures that all sixth formers experience a wide
and varied range of activities.
We would ask that anyone looking to join us in
Overton Grange’s Sixth Form is willing to take
up the challenge of becoming an independent
learner, taking responsibility for their own
learning and future. We will expect a high
standard of conduct, a smart appearance, a
positive attitude and a drive for personal
success. We want to recruit students who
are open minded and want to become active
and responsible citizens and we will offer
inspirational teaching, support and guidance; if
you match this with hard work, enthusiasm and
dedication then you will achieve what you want.
We expect our Sixth Form to provide a dynamic,

Creativity, Action,
Service CAS
At Overton Grange we strongly believe that students’ learning develops both inside and
outside the classroom and so experiential learning is an important part of being in our
Sixth Form. We also want to develop excellent citizens who contribute to the local and
global community and we know that Universities and employers expect students to have
much more on their CVs than just academic results.
CREATIVITY
This aspect of CAS is interpreted as imaginatively as possible to cover a wide range of arts and other
activities outside the normal curriculum, such as:
• Activities like dance, theatre, art and environmental projects
• Students could learn a new instrument or art form, or pursue an existing skill at a higher level.
• They can use existing skills to work creatively with others, in drama, or participating in a music
group or choir
• Students can seek to engage more deeply in understanding the creativity of others, e.g. leading
discussion groups based on films or books
• Activities may include creative thinking and carrying out of service projects e.g. helping to design
a new common room
ACTION
This aspect of CAS can include participation in expeditions, individual and team sports, and physical
activities outside the normal curriculum, such as:
• Students may take up new sports and activities, or develop existing skills to new levels
• They may take part in physical activities, such as expeditions or camping trips. Involvement in the
Duke of Edinburgh Award may contribute to this
• The physical element of creative and service projects may also be included, e.g. building work for
Project India
• Sports coaching
SERVICE
Service projects and activities are often the most transforming element of the
Diploma programme for students. Service involves interaction, such as building
links with individuals or groups in the community. The community may be the
school, the local district, or it may exist on national or international levels.
Service activities should not only involve doing things for others, but also
doing things with others and developing real commitment to them.
• Services may also include activities such as tutoring young children
• Working towards a school concert
• Organising other year groups to write letters for prisoners of conscience,
through Amnesty International
• Community work in India

WE WILL OFFER YOU
• High quality teaching from specialist subject
teachers who will offer feedback about your
progress and how to improve.
• A personal tutor who will be available for
guidance and support. You will also have
regular Academic Mentoring interviews.
• Opportunities to be involved in extra curricular
activities and other work within the school and
the chance elect representatives to the Council
of Overton Grange Sixth Form who will meet
regularly with the Post 16 Learning Leaders to
discuss issues.
• A designated Sixth Form area with access to
ICT facilities is available before, during and
after school
IN RETURN WE EXPECT
You will be motivated to achieve the very best
and will put your full effort into your studies.
• You will follow our listed expectations and
will have a very high attendance rate and be
punctual.
• You will involve yourself in the wider life of
the school and act as a role model to students
in younger years.
• You will show respect to fellow students, staff
and school facilities
HOW TO APPLY
Simply complete the application form that is
enclosed with this prospectus and return it to
the school reception or post it to the address
shown on the back of the prospectus (existing
Overton Grange students can return the form to
your form tutor) by the deadline. An admissions
interview will then be arranged. Formal offers
are made in March and are conditional on GCSE
performance.
