Page 4 Mona School’s Business 2:7,Apr –June 2010 MSB Receives Double Awards in Opportunity Funding Venture Challenge Competition (OFCVC) The OFCVC Team The Mona School of Business, UWI walked away with the award for “Best Presentation” in the Opportunity Funding Venture Challenge Competition (OFCVC), a business plan competition held recently in Atlanta, USA. . The team was also placed third overall in the competition which saw the participation of twenty-one (21) US-based colleges and universities. MSB has been participating in the competition since 2003 and is currently the only business school outside of the USA that participates each year. The MSB team consisted of Oral Farquharson, Karl Rowe, Wadia Lazarus, Maurice Thompson and Jacqueline Swaby, who were also the winners in the local UWI Vincent Ho Sang Venture Challenge Competition. In preparation for the Challenge Competition the team was exposed to extensive training in both the preparation of the written business plan as well as oral delivery of the plan. Khalin had been a part of the MSB family for the past two years. He worked with the technical support unit while pursuing bachelors in computer science. Khalin has completed his degree thus ending his stint at MSB. He has returned to his home in Bahamas. Good luck Khalin

The MSB Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) Cohort 1 , hosted a research conference on the 23rd &24th April 2010, in the Gold Room at Mona Visitors Lodge. The aim of the conference was to unveil progressive ideas for transforming Caribbean businesses to become fully and competitively engaged with the global marketplace. The main theme of the conference was “Business Development in the Caribbean: Confronting the Challenges”. Presentations and deliberations were focused primarily on Caribbean businesses and explored the conference theme in four tracks: • Leadership and Corporate Governance • National Public Policy- • Wealth Creation and Preservation • Entrepreneurship and SMEs
