of which had been presented to the
College by its founder Thomas Phillips
(1760-1851), and which had been on
deposit at the National Library since
1950.
• An extensive collection of papers
relating to the novelist John Cowper
Powys (1872-1963) was purchased,
including correspondence, drafts of
works and family items.
• A copy of an unusual children’s book,
The Origin, Rise and Progress of the
Paper People (London, 1856), the text
manuscripts, reports, photographs,
maps and plans relating to the
geological inquiry into the causes of
the Aberfan Disaster, 21 October 1966.
• A manuscript, written circa 1811, by
John Jones, ‘Jac Glan-y-gors’ (1766-
1821), containing a number of his
poems, some of which have not been
previously recorded (NLW MS 23942).
• A framed pencil portrait, circa 1899-
1900, of the artist Gwen John (1876-
1939) drawn by her brother Augustus
John (1878-1961), when they were
both students at the Slade, London,
and living at the same lodging-house;
lot 11 at the Christie’s sale, London, 10
June 2005.
• Papers of the writer and critic D.
Tecwyn Lloyd (1914-92), containing
by Jane Williams, Ysgafell (1806-85)
and the pictures by Augusta Hall, Lady
Llanover (1802-96).
• The papers of Professor J. N.
