Indigenous Ranger Cadetship Program.
Vincentia Vibe - The voice of our School
Term 4 Week 10
13th December, 2012
The IRCP is a government funded program aimed at retention for Indigenous Students. Vincentia High School is the only
school in NSW to be offered the opportunity to run this amazing program with the other selected schools being in the
Northern Territory and Outback Queensland.
The program will include field trips around wilderness areas as well as attainment of a Cert 1 in Conservation and Land
Management. Our program kicked off several weeks ago with 20 of our Year 8 and 9 students. Activities so far have
included a tour of the Booderee Botanic Gardens which included a history of the local Aboriginal lands told by community
members from Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community and a Ranger Discovery Day held by NSW National Parks and Wildlife at
Greenfields. The Students have also been working to obtain their First Aid and White Card (CIC) certifications. The
students will
undertake work
placement with many
agencies next year,
on conservation
projects as well as
cultural activities.
This fantastic
opportunity will
continue in 2013.
Early Leavers Policy
Sick Students:
If a student becomes sick at school they should inform a teacher (during lesson time) or report to the Administration Office
(during break time). If it is during lesson time the teacher will send the student to the Administration Office with a note.
Staff in the office will enter the student onto the sick room register and ring home if the student requires further attention.
Students are not permitted to ring home on their mobile phones to arrange to be picked up, at any time. This practice is to
ensure the safety of the student at all times.
Leaving Early for an appointment, etc:
If a student needs to leave school early for any reason, they are required to bring a note explaining the reason, neatly written
and signed by a parent or guardian. The note should include an address and the year the student is in. This should be done
before school if possible which will allow the student to be issued with an ‘Early Leavers Pass’ that can then be shown to the
teacher at the relevant time and leave the class with much less fuss.
Please discuss this procedure with your child to ensure that they understand this process and follow the correct procedure
in the future.
