Everyone is Welcome at our Vision Clinic
What do you do if you lost your last pair of contacts and
you can’t drive or work without them
Who do you call if your child needs glasses,
but you don’t have hundreds of dollars for an exam,
frames, and lenses
You call Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Vision
Clinic where you would be welcomed and cared for.
We at Family Health Centers of San Diego
understand the importance of vision care. We are
proud to provide comprehensive vision services for
patients with basic and complex eye care needs. The
Richard worked in sales
and marketing for
years. He struggled with
bipolar disorder, and then
hit rock bottom after
experiencing chronic
nervous system pain that
lead to an addiction to
pain medication. He lost
everything.
Today he is living in a shelter and is in the process of
rebuilding his life. Earlier this year, he came to Family
Health Centers of San Diego’s Logan Heights Vision
Clinic because he was “one contact away from losing
his sight.” He’d been wearing the same pair of
disposable lenses for months because he couldn’t afford
to buy more.
Through Family Health Centers of San Diego’s
Healthcare for the Homeless program, he got new
contacts and glasses. He also started treatment in the
dental department to repair a broken tooth. With good
vision and a charming smile, Richard is now able to
start looking for work.
they found the view from the press box impressive (C). And finally, our guests got a peek into the visitors’ clubhouse
Dr. Newell’s Challenge
Michael Estrada (I) is a happy five year old despite his need for constant medical attention. One of the reasons
Michael is all smiles is Dr. Chad Newell, Michael’s pediatrician at Logan Heights Family Health Center (J). At July’s
Spirit of the Barrio lunch Dr. Newell and Michael joined us to tell Michael’s story (K, L). Dr. Newell asked everyone
in attendance to dig deep to raise money to help with the healthcare needs of Michael and the thousands of kids like
him we see each year. Our generous Spirit of the Barrio supporters gave over $4,000, which was later doubled
through the 2008 Padres’ Challenge.
