SCIENCE OLYMPIAD REGIONAL CHAMPS! Please congratulate the team on their accomplishments… �e St. James Science Olympiad team competed Saturday, February 27, at the NE Kansas Regional Tournament and placed 1st overall in a field of 20 teams from throughout northeast Kansas. �e team medaled in 21 of 23 events and defeated local rivals Olathe East and Olathe North by 20 and 50 points, respectively. �e win is the first in St. James Academy history and was a fitting placement following a year-long season of successes in five previous invitationals. Earlier this season, the team defeated reigning state champs and runners-up Kapaun Mt. Carmel and Wichita Collegiate at two different tournaments, giving the team hope that they can earn a bid to nationals.
SISTERHOOD RETREAT By: Maggie Cunningham, SJA Junior �e All Girls Retreat was all about establishing a strong sisterhood at St. James Academy. It gave us a chance to get away from all the stress in our lives and an opportunity to get to know other girls at St. James. A few senior girls spoke about various topics, such as: gossiping and judging, dealing with stress, modesty, marriage, inner beauty, the perfect man and how to find God in your relationship. �eir talks were like final words of wisdom from the seniors. �ey all had really great insight on the topics they spoke about and I really feel like I learned from their words. We also had the opportunity to share our thoughts in small groups. I had a lot of fun with my group and I got to know new people. Later in the evening, we participated in a scavenger hunt. Our small groups were our teams and we had to do certain things around the academic wing. Some items on the list were: take a picture of your team doing a pyramid, take a picture of your team making a heart only using their hands, find a wedding picture in a wooden frame and many other crazy things. After the scavenger hunt we went into the chapel and had adoration. You could really tell that all of the girls were getting into the adoration. �e Holy Spirit was really present. �e All Girls Retreat was a great experience that I’m grateful I got to have. It was a lot of fun and it was the perfect excuse to get away from the boys. ROMEO AND JULIET WINNERS Mrs. Ish’s English class competed in the classic Romeo & Juliet Act II Scene II balcony scene. Based on their performances, the best Romeo & Juliet were voted on by the class. �e winners are shown below. MRS. ISH’S R O Y A L U P D A T E! Students danced the newly formed “spirit dance” as they welcomed back the sophomores from their retreat. �en the candidates and parents were introduced. Candidates performed by singing and dancing for the Abbie Krause and Alex Munda crowd. Abbie Krause and Alex Munda were crowned Queen and King.
