On the 10, 14, 17 and 18 May common activities for
all participants were held. On 11, 12, 13 and 15 May, the
activities were split in three different
forums; Meeting of Families of Victims in
Asia, Asian Human Rights School, and
Forum for Civil Massacre. KontraS,
represented by Nining Nurhaya, togheter
with Mrs. Misiati G. Utomo from IKOHI
attended the Forum for Civil Massacre and
Meeting of Families of Victims in Asia
Participants from Indonesia, Thailand,
Burma and Nepal choose to attend the
Meeting of Families of Victims in Asia. In
the forum, we got the opportunity to
introduce he Indonesian Human Rights
situation as well as the work of KontraS
and IKOHI, and share stories about
experiences of victims and their families.
At the first day of Forum for Civil Massacre more than
50 persons participated. They came from the Meeting of
Families of Victims in Asia, the Asian Human Rights
School, and Korean victims and family members also
attended. The speakers at the Forum came from the USA
and from Denmark. On the second and third day the
number of attendants were less, since it
did not include the Asian Human Rights
School.
Here follows some important
points from the Peace Camp, that can be
considered by Indonesian civil society
organisations
1.The Korean people’s awareness of
Human Rights and democracy is quite
high after the Gwangju Resurgence
incident. The shift from military to
civilian rule was fast. The high awareness
of Human Rights in Korea has also
impacted on the resolution of Human
All the participant who came from different country.
Rights violations that took place after the
Gwangju incident in 1980. The push for
Human Rights and democracy is still
strong.
