New head of school
building relationships
within the community

For his first year on the job, Ken
Willy has two main goals.
First, the new Oak Hall Episcopal
School head of school
plans to do a lot of listening.
"I need to learn the school community
and how Ardmore Episcopal schooling
fits into the larger community," Willy
says.
Willy has already begun this process
through individual meetings with board
trustees and teachers.
"They tell me their story and what
makes this school special," he says.
Second, Willy plans to increase awareness
in the community about Oak Hall.
"We need to let people know what we
do here, and get our message out," he
says. "This is a great place for people to
come to school — excellent programs,
excellent faculty and excellent staff."
Willy previously worked as the dean
of students and director of music for a
parish and its school in Miami, Fla.
He moves to Ardmore with his wife

"For my young family, this is an opportunity
for a slower pace of life. Miami
is a very fast city," Willy says.
Willy grew up in Sydney, Australia,
and has lived in several different countries
over the years.
"Home is where we are," he says.
"We've made St. Philip's Episcopal home,
and everyone has been very welcoming.
It's been easy to become relaxed even
though it's a new environment:'
When not in class, Willy enjoys reading,
music and shooting skeet and sporting
clays.
"I like spending time with my family
and Ardmore has great outdoor facilities,"
he says.
The ceremony for Willy's commissioning
will be Sept. 27 at St. Philip's
Episcopal Church.
"As a family and a part of my profession,
we're really pleased to be here and
build relationships with the Ardmore
Episcopal community and the greater
Ardmore community," Willy says.

This past weekend, a group
estimated between 60 and
70 people searched on foot,
horseback and four-wheeler
for Miller in the area of Oswalt
Road and Long Hollow
Road. The Love County
Sheriff's Department was
on scene for traffic control
and assistance, backed up
by the Wilson PD.
"They looked for her on
several different properties,
and no sign was found,"
Hernandez said. "We want
to thank all those that took
time out of their day to help
a family in need and search
for her."
Hernandez said Miller appears
to be in a relationship
with Haynes, who is wanted
on an outstanding warrant
in Carter County.
Miller has been entered
into the National Center
for Missing and Exploited
Children as an endangered
runaway. There have been
attempts to place an Amber
Alert on Miller as well with
no success.
"We tried an Amber Alert
two to three weeks ago, and
it was not accepted because
it did not meet the criteria,"
Hernandez said. "We upgraded
her to missing/endangered
last week, and it
still did not meet the criteria
for an Amber Alert."
Miller has brown hair and
blue eyes and is 5-5 tall and
95 pounds. When she was
last seen, her hair was dyed
black and her bottom lip is
pierced. Anyone with information
regarding Miller's
location is encouraged to

protect up to several hours. Always follow product instructions.
Parents should apply this product to
their children, avoiding the hands, eyes and
mouth. Insect repellents are not recommended
for children less than 2 months of age.
■ Products containing permethrin kill ticks.
Permethrin can be used to treat boots, clothing and
camping gear, and remain protective through several
washings. But, remember, permethrin-containing products
should not be applied to the skin.
■ After being indoors, remove any ticks found on your
clothing and run the clothes in the dryer on high heat
for about an hour to kill ticks.
■ Take a shower. Showering within two hours after
being outside has been shown to reduce risks for Lyme
disease, and it helps wash off unattached ticks.
■ Check for ticks. Use a mirror to help check your
body for ticks after being outdoors.
■ Do not use products that combine DEET with
sunscreen. The DEET may make the sun protection
factor less effective. These products can overexpose
your child to DEET, because the sunscreen needs to be
reapplied often.
"Something else to consider is if you find a tick — be
careful how you remove it," Zimmerman says. "The best
way to remove a tick is to use tweezers to grasp the tick
as close to the skin's surface as possible, pull it straight
out and then clean the bite area with soap and water."

"The risk of acquiring a tick-borne illness depends
on what type of tick bites you, and how long it was
attached. If a rash develops at the site where the tick was
or you get a fever in the days or weeks after a tick bite,
then you should see a doctor," Zimmerman says.
Are you safe from tick bites if you stay out of wooded
areas Nope. While ticks commonly live in moist and
humid environments, and most often in wooded and
grassy areas, that doesn't eliminate your own yard.
However, Zimmerman says there are things you can
do to reduce not only ticks, but other biting insects from
staking a homestead claim in your yard or moving into
your house.
"Take time to clear tall grass around your
home, lay gravel or wood chips between
yards and wooded areas and consider using
pest control," he says. "It's also important to
use a flea and tick preventative on your pets
in order to prevent them from bringing the pests inside
your home."
