Sales Management Comments
The big strings in the only Simmental bull sale in Red Deer come from Oh Kay Farms and Beechinor Bros. Oh Kay Farms, the Lougheed family
of Red Deer, have long been a “cornerpost” to the Red Deer Bull Sale and often have a strong set of sire groups included in their annual offering.
The Beechinor Bros of Bentley are former “Top Guns” and have taken over the bulk of the well known Action Simmentals herd owned by Wallace
McComish. There are some “breeder” bulls tucked into this pen of 22.
Speaking of “breeder” bulls, the only bulls to be sold from the ‘08 calf crops of the Fullblood herd of Champ Simmentals and the Red Simmental
herd of Progressive Simmentals, will be featured in Red Deer.
The top bulls from the respective pens of Don Heggie Simmentals, Bar L7 Simmental Ranch, Hiemstra Hill Farm, Starwest Farms, Saugeen Acres,
Rocking R Simmentals, Seven Hills Farms among others, will have been selected.
Call on any of us if we can help with your purchases.
A pick of many visitors this winter as he wowed them with his thick deep hindquarter and
fluid movement. Undefeated also has excellent testicular development and a nice red color.
On his dams side is a strong Fleckvieh influence with Great Guns Mitzi. Great udders run
through this cow line and 537R raised one of our best heifers two years ago. This heifer is
1
now developing into an excellent looking cow. 537R’s maternal sister is the dam of 8402U
who raised last year’s Top Guns high seller for us.
The magical Mystery, as Jay calls her, does it once again. This deep, deep, thick butted future herdsire,
together with his brothers working at Bar L7, Virginia Ranch/ Fike Farms and Maronda’s, show we
might not be able to classify the heavy milking Mystery 19M as a mystery anymore. The cross with
Powerline created a powerhouse bull with loads of capacity that has been a pen favorite of both ours
and visitors. We would like to retain the right to 100 straws of semen for in herd use only.
A correctly made Talladega son that has a deep flank and wonderful hair coat. Talladega was the
high selling red bull out of the McMillen 07 sale and went on to be very competitive at Farmfair and
Agribition being named the National Reserve Junior Grand Champion. We are very impressed
with both his bull and heifer calves. 414U’s mother has a perfect udder and a temperament to
dream of.
the type of bull that could go on to raise some of those market topping steers in the fall. The
Another top Nacho son out of one of our best cow families. We currently have 3 very promising
daughters of 402M in our herd. This being her first son shows that she’s no slouch when it
comes to producing bulls either . 402U is smooth made and definitely the right kind for the needs
of the industry. You won’t go wrong with bull calves or replacement heifers out of him.
416U is one of the powerful and dark red bulls in the pen that is stoutly made. Our Nacho
bulls are an impressive group that are thickly made and soggy. Granum Colony bought a
high selling Nacho son at Top Guns last year. Look for 416U to produce those popular blaze
faced calves. Good Fleckvieh influence on the maternal side.
heifer who did a good job raising this guy. Dream On has been a very popular AI sire in
Canada and the US, siring progeny that have been in high demand. Ugra should be able to
add a little frame in order to add pounds to your calves at weaning. With a smooth front end
Ugra’s calves should come easy.
great calves with an awesome udder and correct feet. At pasture she is our most admired
cow and people can’t believe her age. She is best known for producing SU Painter but we believe
Ultimatum could surpass his brother’s production. 24U is stout, very smooth and has an attention
demanding presence in the bull pen.
a lot of his sire that JNR sold semen as high as $400 a straw on this past fall. His dam, Camille, was one of
our favorite cows and raised top progeny including Smokin, current herdsire for Keato Meadows Simmentals.
Unfortunately this will be her last calf as we lost her at the being of June to a lightning strike and 401U spent
the rest of the summer eating grass. Udaman has a load of pigment, smooth front end, depth of body and
lots of dark red hair. We would like to retain the right to 100 straws of semen for in herd use only.
After talking to Richard and hearing how pleased he is with the way Tombstone matured
31K does it again! Massive in every dimension, in our opinion she may just be one of the
most recognizable females to leave the Bar 15 program given her past and present progeny.
No matter what we breed her to, she manages to get the job done. She has produced the
Copper and Rough & Ready herd bulls at Janzen Ranches, as well as a son working for
our commercial customer, KK Ranches of Kleena Kleene, BC. Her daughters have sold
to Remington Cattle and Big Rock Simmentals. Astaroid’s full sibling sister has dropped
her first calf and she is the biggest volumed bred heifer that we have ever experienced
Our continued search for foundation females often leads us to the Yellow Rose program
where great people, breed leading cow families, and impact sires are the order of the
day. We feel we have found such a female in Camille, the high selling red heifer calf
from Red and Black 2006. Her first year of production left us with no surprises, as she is
mothered by BGF 48M, Bobbi Gayle’s leading red cow, and sired by the highly maternal,
calving ease bred bull Bar 15 Timex. Camille also happens to be a full sibling to Yellow
Rose’s high selling red bull at Top Guns Bull Sale last spring to Abraham Land and Cattle.
Camille and Twin Chief Spencer have teamed up to produce “The Wrench”, who posted
our highest recorded weaning weight on August 23 at 1037 lbs. He has charged on since
weaning and weighed 1540 lbs in the first week of January. It’s been interesting to watch
this bull develop into what he is today. He’s an exciting package consisting of growth with
a super maternal two-year-old backing him up.
Kananaskis has done it again. In the past few years she has raised some awesome bulls that
have averaged $6,200... one sold to C&D Simmentals and the other to Wheatland Colony,
both of which are doing an outstanding job. Her Molson bull calf, UTAH, is no different
and she is quickly becoming a bull momma who builds them to work. If you are looking for
consistency in all aspects of this business.... jump in on this one!
Here is the youngest bull in our offering, but certainly not the least. This long, thick, hairy
calf is backed by one of our best foundation cows, HEMR Goidl, who always gives us calves
that stand out in the pen. What United lacks in age, he makes up for in performance and our
Mac T calves always seem to rise to the top. We sold United’s half brother to Miller’s in last
year’s sale and here’s your chance to get another solid bull.
does he have that going for him, but he’s got a great set of feet and legs. His momma, at 19
100% FULL FLECK - DEEP & THICK describes this calf .His dam is a hard working BHL
WESTERN 36R daughter that was purchased at the Mcdougall dispersal. This cow has been
bred four different ways and has never missed bringing in a top calf. This bull brings you some
of the old reliable genetics and crossed with some of the power from the present. Colored
right, free moving and out of VIRGINA RENAISSANCE 46R, you could not ask for anything
more. Been fed to work, not finished.
