Sales Management Comments 

The big strings in the only Simmental bull sale in Red Deer come from Oh Kay Farms and Beechinor Bros. Oh Kay Farms, the Lougheed family 

of Red Deer, have long been a “cornerpost” to the Red Deer Bull Sale and often have a strong set of sire groups included in their annual offering. 

The Beechinor Bros of Bentley are former “Top Guns” and have taken over the bulk of the well known Action Simmentals herd owned by Wallace 

McComish. There are some “breeder” bulls tucked into this pen of 22. 

Speaking of “breeder” bulls, the only bulls to be sold from the ‘08 calf crops of the Fullblood herd of Champ Simmentals and the Red Simmental 

herd of Progressive Simmentals, will be featured in Red Deer. 

The top bulls from the respective pens of Don Heggie Simmentals, Bar L7 Simmental Ranch, Hiemstra Hill Farm, Starwest Farms, Saugeen Acres, 

Rocking R Simmentals, Seven Hills Farms among others, will have been selected.

A pick of many visitors this winter as he wowed them with his thick deep hindquarter and 

fluid movement. Undefeated also has excellent testicular development and a nice red color. 

On his dams side is a strong Fleckvieh influence with Great Guns Mitzi. Great udders run 

through this cow line and 537R raised one of our best heifers two years ago. This heifer is

now developing into an excellent looking cow. 537R’s maternal sister is the dam of 8402U 

who raised last year’s Top Guns high seller for us.

The magical Mystery, as Jay calls her, does it once again. This deep, deep, thick butted future herdsire, 

together with his brothers working at Bar L7, Virginia Ranch/ Fike Farms and Maronda’s, show we 

might not be able to classify the heavy milking Mystery 19M as a mystery anymore. The cross with 

Powerline created a powerhouse bull with loads of capacity that has been a pen favorite of both ours 

and visitors. We would like to retain the right to 100 straws of semen for in herd use only.

A correctly made Talladega son that has a deep flank and wonderful hair coat. Talladega was the 

high selling red bull out of the McMillen 07 sale and went on to be very competitive at Farmfair and 

Agribition being named the National Reserve Junior Grand Champion. We are very impressed

heifer who did a good job raising this guy. Dream On has been a very popular AI sire in 

Canada and the US, siring progeny that have been in high demand. Ugra should be able to

Ugra’s calves should come easy.

Our only black bull offered this year but boy is he a good one. Newport was the first red cow 

we ever bought and has turned into an awesome cow with a beautiful udder. 293U carries the

Umberto is a clean fronted bull with a lower birth weight but still pushes the scale down. Son 

of the calving ease specialist Three Sixes who has consistently sired some of our best bulls. 

138U’s dam, Miss Forever, has a very good udder with lots of milk which are common traits of 

all our SU Diamond descendants which make up almost a quarter of our herd. The Three Sixes 

daughters also show a lot of promise; one raised an $11 200 heifer calf for us this last fall.

his dam in the fall at Ron Potters and he didn’t know what to do with him. We thought he 

could make someone an excellent herd sire, so we told him that we would be happy to take 

him home with us. Since then he hasn’t disappointed one bit. Navigator’s sire is a Stulberg 

bred Endevor son that they were very high on, now owned by Kulyk Simmentals.

Our continued search for foundation females often leads us to the Yellow Rose program 

where great people, breed leading cow families, and impact sires are the order of the
