Thermodynamics and chemical kinetics <strong>of</strong> combustion<br />

reactions, modeling <strong>of</strong> reacting fluid mechanical<br />

systems, subsonic and supersonic combustion,<br />

detailed and one-step kinetics, ignition theory,<br />

asymptotic and numerical techniques for modeling<br />

combustion systems. Not every year.<br />

459. Advanced Mechanics <strong>of</strong> Solids<br />

The course covers fundamental principles and<br />

techniques in stress analysis <strong>of</strong> trusses, beams, rigid<br />

frames and thin-walled structures. Emphasis is<br />

placed on energy methods associated with calculus<br />

460. Particle Dynamics in Atmospheric<br />

and Space Environments<br />

Prerequisite: AME 350 or AME 334.<br />

A senior-level undergraduate course designed to<br />

introduce the student to the subject <strong>of</strong> aerosol<br />

mechanics, with emphasis on the fundamental laws<br />

that govern particle formation, transport and deposition<br />

in atmospheric and space environments. Not<br />
