American Heart Association Luncheon
Tuesday, January 17 • 12:00 Noon
The American Heart Association
in partnership with Condo
and HOA Law would like to invite
you for lunch to educate you
on the myths and raise awareness
heart disease is their No. 1 killer and less than half
know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular
risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol.
Condo and HOA Law will explain how stress is linked
to Cardio Vascular Disease and how they can help
to reduce stress in your community. The Go Red For
Women movement works to make sure women know
they are at risk so they can take action to protect their
health. This FREE luncheon is open to both men and
women. All reservations must be received by Tuesday,
How to Plan for
Long Term Wellness:
Strategies to Secure Healthy Finances & Care Planning
We Never Plan to Make Mistakes
We understand we have only one
opportunity to live our lives, to
celebrate our joys and manage
our hardships. But all too
often we worry too much
about the little things
and just let the big things happen without planning or
preparation. We need to know the #1 big mistake that
consistently causes financial and emotional hardship
in families, and we need to know how to avoid it! If
you don’t plan ahead, it’s likely to be one of those
mistakes that you won’t be able to afford over the
long haul. Your hesitation could come at a great cost!
Join us on Wednesday, February 8 at 9:00 a.m. for
this informative workshop. Please RSVP to the HOA
Office by calling 949-9909 by Monday, February 6.
Game Night
1st & 3rd Tuesday • 7 p.m. in the Great Room
Get a group together to play Euchre,
Pinochle, Rummy Cube, or your game
of choice. Have a new game to share
Bring it with you.
Euchre
Hello, neighbors. If you are interested and know how to
play, please give Joyce Buckler a call at 239-949-3301. If
you don’t know how to play or have never heard of Euchre
(pronounced you-ker), feel free to call me to express your
interest. Euchre is a partnered card game that is played using
the 9-10-J-Q-K-A. The object is to gain 3 or more tricks
after trump is named. It is easy to learn and play but does require
some strategy. The Euchre Club is in the development
stage, so please if you are interested in getting this going!
Grandma’s
Closet
We need your baby stuff! As people
move in and out of our community
it’s important to keep updating our Grandma’s Closet
listing. Grandma’s Closet is a community listing of baby
and children’s items such as cribs, strollers, play toys etc.
that you are willing to share with other homeowners. We
all have family that comes into town; instead of buying
these items why not help someone in need. If you are
willing to share or need items to be shared, please contact
Margie Lutz at 390-9305 or email lmlutz@embarqmail.
com. Don’t forget to mention your name, phone number,
the items and if you are seasonal or permanent. We thank
you in advance!
a needed break. If you are a resident (may be seasonal or
CLUBS (cont.)
Hooked on Books
Thank you Hooked on Books! They raised $161.50
for us this year at their annual Book sale. The money went
to a donation for the Barber Shop Chorus and expenses for
the Tree lighting. GREAT JOB BOOK CLUB!!!
January 11, 2012
Hooked on Books will meet at 1:00 p.m. on January
11, 2012 in the Town Center to discuss “Please look
after Mom” by Kyung Sook Shin. Carmen Yanazzo
will lead the discussion of this poignant story.
“Please look after Mom” is the story of a mother,
and her family’s search for her after she goes missing
in a crowded railroad station. The story is told in the
voices of the daughter, her oldest son, her husband, and
finally, in her own.
February 8, 2012
We will meet at 1:00 p.m. on February 8th in the
Town Center to discuss “Caleb’s Crossing” by Geraldine
Brooks with Sandy Kandik leading our discussion.
Bethia Mayfield’s forbidden friendship with Caleb
Cheesah Teaumauk, a member of the Wopanaak tribe
of Martha’s Vineyard, whom she meets as a 12 year old
sent to dig clams for her family’s supper, changes both
of their lives forever. Over time they teach each other
about their cultures and Caleb becomes the 1st Native
American to graduate from Harvard in 1662.
March 14, 2012
On March 14th we will meet in the Town Center
at 1:00 to discuss “Killing Lincoln” by Bill O’Reilly.
Lois Strock will lead us in discussing this riveting historical
narrative of the heart-stopping events surrounding
the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
In the spring of 1865, America’s civil war comes to
an end after a series of particularly harrowing battles.
President Lincoln’s generous terms for Robert E Lee’s
surrender are devised to fulfill Lincoln’s dream of healing
a divided nation. But one man, and his murderous
accomplices, perhaps reaching into the highest ranks of
the U S government are not appeased.
Please call or email (margewise@gmail.com) Marge
Wisniewski if you are planning to attend.
Hooked on Books II
Hooked on Books II will gather the first Thursday
of each month at 7 p.m. at the Town Center (January
5th, February 2nd, and March 1st). Please call Michele
Cudnik at 239-405.7592 or e-mail at: m.cudnik@
hotmail.com with any questions, and/or if you will be
As More of Our
Residents Return
Our streets are already becoming busier within the
community with many more vehicles, bicyclists, walkers
and joggers on our streets. PLEASE remember:
• The speed limit throughout the community is 25
miles per hour.
• Use extra care in watching out for our pet walkers,
children, cyclists and joggers.
• Joggers, cyclists: please use reflective gear when
on the streets: now that it gets dark earlier, drivers
may not see you. Use caution when out at dusk or
after dark!
• Please slow down when entering the community at
the gate. Some drivers fly into the community and
do not fully stop at the stop sign. Prevent an accident
and obey the speed limit and all traffic signs.
• Do NOT tail gate into the community: if you damage
your vehicle due to tailgating the cost to repair
is yours. The gate arm is programmed to close
after each vehicle: please wait your turn.
