WHO WE SERVE
We provide services to individuals from
infancy to early adulthood. Reasons for
seeking an evaluation include concerns about:
• Learning Disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, writing,
and mathematics disorders)
• Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD)
• Autistic Spectrum Disorders/Asperger’s Syndrome
• Anxiety Disorders
• Depression
• Genetic Conditions
• Traumatic Brain Injuries
EVALUATIONS
Our comprehensive evaluation provides a better
understanding of the child’s behavior and learning
in school, home, and the community. Depending
on the age of the child and nature of the referral
concern, the actual assessment process may range
from 3 to 7 hours. Following the assessment, a
parent feedback session will be scheduled, during
which assessment results and recommendations are
provided and discussed. We utilize a variety of
methods and measures, including standardized tests,
parent interview, parent-report questionnaires,
computerized measures, child observation or interview,
and review of information (with parental permission)
from teachers or therapists.
Depending on the nature of the referral concern,
we evaluate your child’s functioning across a number
of domains including intelligence, academic skills,
attentional abilities, executive function, visual-spatial
skills, language skills, motor coordination, social skills,
emotional functioning, and adaptive/self-help skills.
Through this process, we can create a profile of your
child’s strengths and weaknesses which can help you:
• Understand why your child is having
academic difficulties
• Understand why your child is experiencing
frustration or delays in learning or social contexts
• Detect the effects of developmental, neurological, and
medical problems
• Appreciate your child’s strengths and talents
• Determine what types of interventions are appropriate
• Enhance parenting strategies
• Learn how to advocate for your child in school
• Make informed school placement decisions
• Work cooperatively with the current school to meet
your child’s needs
INTERVENTION
In addition to assessment and medical management services, our clinicians offer the following types of
intervention services for families whose children have been evaluated at the clinic:
• Parenting skills groups for the preschool
or elementary years
• Play and Learning Strategies: A parent-child
interaction program for enhancing attachment
relationships and cognitive development
in infants and toddlers
Our clinicians can also provide onsite workshops and presentations to preschool or childcare staff regarding early
childhood issues, such as:
• Guiding children’s behavior and managing difficult
behaviors in the classroom
• Supporting young children’s language development
in the classroom
• Creating effective collaborative relationships with busy,
working parents
MEDICAL MANAGEMENT
Dr. Williamson’s neurodevelopmental services
also include the management of medications
for ADHD and other disorders. Dr. Williamson
may refer your child for other medical studies
such as neuroimaging, genetic and metabolic
evaluations.
• Individualized parent consultation sessions regarding
specific concerns, to help the family: adjust to
a new sibling, prepare for an adoption, cope with
parental divorce, or respond to unexpected events
such as death or serious illness in the family
• Talking with preschool children about difficult events
(e.g., traumatic incidents, death, divorce, etc.)
• Helping children build social and problem-solving skills
• Other topics as requested
