RSS worker stops Advani’s speech, speaks his mind (26)
AHMEDABAD, July 10. — A drama of sorts was witnessed at a function to felicitate leader of Opposition
in Parliament, Mr LK Advani, here tonight when he was forced to stop his speech briefly to listen to an
RSS work er, who fervently demanded that the senior BJP leader "listen to the voice" of party workers to
understand the "real" reasons of defeat in the Lok Sabha polls.
As soon as Mr Advani began addressing the function, a sud den shriek of "Advaniji please lis ten to party
workers' voice" from near the entrance of the hall caught everyone, including the former deputy Prime
Minister totally unaware. However, Mr Advani directed the police and other partymen, who tried to jostle
him out, not to do so, saying he was ready to lis ten to whatever the man wants to say. At the end, the
man, who later identified himself as Ghanshyam Rawal, and is associated with the RSS since 1958, was
allowed to come near the dais and vent out his feelings even as there were protests from several other
party workers. "Please let him speak...please don't interrupt. Let me listen and understand. Though this is
not a party workers meeting, I will lis ten to him," Mr Advani was heard telling party workers who objected
to disruption of the func tion as Mr Rawal began speak ing. (Statesman 11.7.04)
VHP working president Ashok Singhal said there was no justification for considering Muslims and
Christians as mi norities in the global context. Moreover, in a country where society is fragmented into
com munities and sects, Muslims, with 14 per cent population, "are the single-largest minority community".
"How are they a_ minority" he asked. Singhal said the Congress was walking in the footsteps of the
British "to divide the country."(Indian Express 16.7.04)
