Sangh admits storm brewing in the Parivar (26)
HARDWAR, NOVEMBER 5: THE cracks in the Sangh Parivar split wide open to day and the tremors
from the shaken saffron edifice reverberated not just in this ancient pil grimage town but as far away as
Delhi, Indore and Bhopal. The proceedings on the first day of the RSS's na tional executive meeting at the
Kacchi Ashram here to day, attended by over 300 delegates including BJP chief L K Advani and his predecessor
Venkaiah Naidu, was wholly overshadowed by the "boycott" by VHP strongmen Ashok Singhal
and Praveen Togadia. In an act of open defi ance against the RSS—re garded as the "mother" or ganisation
to which all affiliates pay obeisance— Messrs Singhal and Togadia (and their compatriot Giri-raj Kishore)
refused to at tend the RSS meet to protest the presence of their current bete noire L K Advani. (Indian
VHP boycotts RSS meet (26)
Haridwar, November 5: SENIOR VHP leaders Praveen Togadia, Ashok Singhal and Giriraj Kishore
'boycotted' the crucial RSS All-India Working Committee meeting, supposedly due to BJP chief L. K.
Advani's presence. The trio, who had attended the pre-meet discussions with the RSS leaders at the Rajju
Bhaiya com plex on Wednesday, left the venue just before Advani's arrival. They spent the day in the
nearby Doodhadhari Ashram to perform a Hin du Jan Jagran Anushthan and re fused to meet anybody The
'boycott' not only proved to be an embarrassment for Advani, but also ensured that none of the is sues on
the agenda could be taken up. Hectic efforts continued on the sidelines to convince the leaders to meet
Advani and sort out their dif ferences through negotiation, but without result. This is the first time that the
VHP has boycotted the RSS annual working committee meet. Even efforts by senior RSS leaders like K.
C. Sudarshan and Rajendra Singh Pankaj to cajole the furious VHP leaders failed. Advani said the issues
that were taken up in the meet included the prevailing political scenario of the country and the BJP's role in
it. Re cent glection results and the Ram Janmbhumi Mandir issue were also discussed, he added. Advani
said that the BJP was ready to take corrective measures, if needed, but refused to elaborate. He also refused
to answer questions on the VHP's boycott and Uma Bharti's re marks against Pramod Mahajan.
BJP, VHP prepare for battle (26)
HARDWAR, Nov. 6. - It's official now. The cracks are visible, the facade of discipline has been shat tered
and the Sangh Parivar's top bosses have accepted that the VHP and BJP are at war. All this has
happened within a span of 48 hours at the two-day national ex ecutive meet of the RSS. It is apparent that
in this 'battle' for supremacy, the RSS has sided with the VHP. The RSS genera), secretary, Mr Mohan
Rao Bhag-wat, today said: "There are differ ences between the VHP and BJP (over issue of Hindutva)...
and RSS wants BJP to come back to the Hindutva fold." Mr Bhagwat said the RSS will adopt a 'wait and
watch' policy for some more time to give the BJP another chance to return to its saffron moorings. He did
not rule out the possibility of looking for another option to replace the BJP in case the party fails to follow
the RSS' 'suggestions'. (Statesman 7.11.04)
NDA allies to oppose BJP Hindutva agenda (26)
New Delhi, Nov. 9: NDA allies are deter mined to oppose any moves by the BJP to rake up contentious
issues like Ayodhya. The NDA meeting is scheduled in the Capital for Monday, in the backdrop of B JP
president L.K. Advani raising the Ram Temple issue at the BIP national council meeting on October 27. Mr
Advani's remarks on Ayodhya at the meeting triggered a controversy with some NDA allies worried that
the BJP was chart ing its own course with Hindutva as a dri ving force. The NDA meeting has been
convened fol lowing a demand by the Janata Dal-United, an alliance constituent, at its recent national
executive meeting in Ranchi, which passed a resolution saying that it had joined the NDA only after three
controversial issues — abrogation of Article 370, Uniform Civil Code and Ayodhya — had been removed
from the-NDA's national agenda for Governance. "If any effort is now made to revive them, we shall have
to take another road. We shall never compromise with religious big otry," the JD-U resolution had stated,
indi cating that it could even consider severing ties with the BJP-led alliance. The TDP, which had
