Lesson Number 16<br />
Tafkhīm and Tarqīq<br />
C The meaning of Tafkhīm is to pronounce the letter in thick tone, and that of Tarqīq<br />
is to pronounce the letter in thin tone.<br />
C Three letters لآَ م ,ا َلِف and رَا are sometimes pronounced in thick tone and sometimes<br />
in thin tone.<br />
C ا َلِف ا َلِف will be pronounced in thick tone if it is preceded by a letter that is<br />
pronounced in thick tone and it will be pronounced in thin tone when preceded by a<br />
letter that is pronounced in thin tone.<br />
C لآَ م If the letter before the لآَ م of the Ism-e-Jalālat – ٰ ا َللّ ( ) carries Zabar or<br />
Paysh, then the لآَ م of the Ism-e-Jalālat – ٰ ا َللّ ( ) will be pronounced in thick tone<br />
and if the letter before the لآَ م of the Ism-e-Jalālat – ٰ ا َللّ ( ) carries Zayr, then the<br />
tone. ( ) will be pronounced in thin ا َللّ of the Ism-e-Jalālat – ٰ لآَ<br />
