The Spring term is upon us and hopefully we are able to say goodbye to the harsh
winter weather. Our Tattersalls’ performance of 'Shake, Ripple and Roll' was a
fitting end to the Autumn term, and I would like to thank all of the pupils and staff
for their splendid efforts and contributions towards making this event a huge
success. We now look forward to our Spring concerts, which will soon take place !
As I am sure you have all seen, our new hard court facility and multi use games
area is nearer completion, and we soon hope to see our pupils making full use of
the facility. In previous years, we have been able to offer financial support to some
pupils for a wide range of activities through our allocation of Pathfinder
funding. Sadly, I have to report that this funding stream to the school has now
ceased, and we are unable to pass any of the associated benefits on to our pupils.
We welcome Mr. J. Chengo to the staff, who has previously been teaching at
Parkway Middle School. He joins us until the end of the academic year, and will
teach Science and Maths, and oversee a Year 7 tutor group.

Congratulations to Daniel Petters of 8JH on his recent
achievements in Banger Car racing. Daniel is a very
competitive Junior Banger Driver and Ministox driver. He has won four
1st place trophies in his last four meetings, including a win in the final in
his Mini at Arena Essex at Lakeside, and the Gold Roof Revenge Final
in his junior banger at Swaffham Raceway in Norfolk. In just over half
a season last year in his Junior Banger he managed to achieve 10th place
in the points
championship out of over 50 drivers, most of whom competed the whole
season and are aged up to 16!
Well done Daniel, we are all very proud of you!

BOOK MASTERMIND
Congratulations, and good luck to Elizabeth Ritsema of
8CS who is through to the Area Finals of Book
Mastermind, where she will represent St Felix in a team
with other pupils from Scaltback Middle School and
Newmarket College. Thanks to George Culloden, who
is our reserve for this event. Both pupils have reached
an excellent standard in their reading for this
competition.

Congratulations to Flashman Finneran of 6SS on
his recent go-karting achievements. Flashman
travelled to Florida in December to compete in
the Florida Winter Championships where he
won two trophies. One for 2nd place in a
qualifying competition, and the other was for
3rd place. Flashman will soon be returning to
Florida to take part in the next qualifier. He
travels extensively throughout the UK to
compete in many go-karting finals, and is in the
top 10 in the country for his age group.
Well done Flashman,
we are all very proud of you!

AUTUMN TERM ASSESSMENTS
All children have recently been given a summary report detailing their national
curriculum and effort level for each subject to take home to parents/carers.
Please contact your child’s Form Teacher if, for any reason, you have not
received your child’s report or you have any queries regarding any of the
assessments. Thank you.
HOMEWORK
We would like your support in ensuring that your child
completes homework tasks and hands them in on time.
If homework is not completed on time, it becomes very difficult
for the teacher to provide meaningful feedback, as the crucial
moment of learning may well have passed, and the class will
have moved on to the next part of a topic.
A copy of the school’s Homework Policy has previously been
distributed to parents/carers. However, if for any reason you
have not received a copy, the policy is available for reference on
our website
www.st-felix.org.uk or alternatively you can request a copy from
the school’s Reception.
May we remind you that there is a supervised Homework Club
every lunchtime in Room 21 where children have access to
laptops, reference books and adult help.

We have been asked to pass on the following information regarding
receiving meals free-of-charge for a child attending a school in Suffolk
At Suffolk County Council we are committed to promoting the health and
well-being of children, providing assistance for children from entitled
households to have their meals free of charge while at school.
Your child may have free meals when they are at school full time if you
receive:
�� Income Support or
�� Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or
�� Employment Support Allowance (Income related) or
�� Child Tax Credit, but not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have tax
able income of less than £16,190 (from 5April 2010) as shown on your
Tax Credit Award Summary.
�� The Guarantee Element of the State Pension Credit or
�� Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
To apply for free school meals you can request or download an application
form by typing the following into the internet:

You will need to sign the completed application form and send it, along
with proof of your current benefit(s), to the address given on the form.

EQUIPMENT
It is important that every child has the equipment they
need in order to carry out the everyday tasks required of
them in lessons. We should be grateful therefore if you
could check your child’s pencil case to ensure they have
the following items:
Scientific calculator, set square, protractor and
compasses
A handwriting pen, HB pencil and a rubber
Colouring pencils
30cm ruler
Glue stick
Sharpener
Scissors
Every child should also have a current and appropriate
reading book and their Planner with them for every
lesson.
Any child who continually fails to have the right
equipment in a lesson will be given a D mark.

These Parents’ Evenings will all run from 4pm to 6pm.
Representatives from the school’s governing body and from
Newmarket College will be available for you to speak to during these
evenings.
Please contact the school’s Reception if you would like to speak to
Mrs Walmsley or Mrs Lennon from our SEN Dept about your
child at one of the above Parents’ Evenings. A convenient
appointment will then be made for you.
