My Friend’s Closet
Vow Of Silence
What an incredible success! On Friday November 25th, approximately 1500 items of clothing were passed
along to our students through My Friend’s Closet over Friday and this morning. Some items were sold, some
were traded for non-perishable food items, many were given away free. Thank you to each and every one of
our staff and students who participated or purchased to help make this a successful event!
Hot off our “We Day” experience, students wanted to show they care by participating in The Vow of Silence
through Free the Children. The Vow of Silence is to show support for children whose voices have been silenced
through slavery (carpet mills), being a child soldier or forced into the sex trade. Students were silent
for 24 hours, no texting, Facebook, writing to communicate, or miming. 43 students participated in this event.
Donations have reached $275.00 and pledge forms are still coming in. Way to go Jimmies!
Take Your Kids To Work Day
On Wednesday, November 2, Grade 9 students
at St. James Collegiate participated
in “Take Our Kids to Work Day”. Students
spent the day at work with a parent, guardian,
adult friend or volunteer host to provide
the opportunity to view the world of work
and understand its demands and opportunities.
The day allowed students to see parents
or volunteer hosts in different roles and responsibilities
and understand what they do to
support a family.
Our students were involved in many different
activities. Dustin Tower spent the day with
his dad, Darren Tower, at Extra Foods on Roblin
Boulevard learning more about the food
industry while Rose Nigidja worked along
with her sister, Ms Ives, an Educational Assistant
at George Waters Middles School.
